The best thing my husband and I did when we married was move away from both our families. We both came from wonderful, loving, godly families, but we needed that time to separate and become our own family. It was hard, but we went through it together- it wasn’t one person being totally familiar with everything around them (church, family, friends, etc.), and the other being in a totally new place and having to adapt. I know it can’t be that way for everyone, but I highly recommend it for newlyweds. My husband and I grew so close together those first few years and it was great for us. We eventually moved closer to our families, but weren’t reliant on them to make us happy. Our friendship and closeness in our marriage make us happy.

I had wondered what happened to your first wedding dress and thought the story would be on the show. Sadly we won’t get to see your wedding (or Nathan’s and Esther’s wedding) so I was glad to hear you tell about the story of “the wedding dress”. Hope sometime you show some clips of your wedding. I found videos online for some of the weddings. Give it a month or two and try looking for them then. Also highlight ones usually have all that you want to see anyway. Hope this helps you.

Katie ... I think you should push through your anxiety about driving in a new place and see it as an opportunity to grow your confidence and independence. Getting yourself into a work situation will keep you occupied with less time to miss the family. It will also open up new avenues for friendships and benefit your little family financially. And that wedding dress you wore was absolutely stunning !!

I live in PA, and NJ drivers are crazy! We moved here from OR where the drivers were slower and not so crazy, so her anxiety about NJ drivers is legit!

Oh, I can understand the emotions about the wedding dress… Living in Germany during covid and lockdown, I ended up buying it second hand. Also back and front had to be covered more. Unfortunately, the sewer didnt fix it as we had been asking to. In the end, she put a second layer so it looked kind of strange. As I had no more time and wasnt willing to spend more energy and money, I found peace about the situation and kept it.👰🏼

I kind of understand your anxiety and stress over your wedding dress! Thankfully my experience wasn’t as hectic as yours. I fell in love with a dress that needed modifications for me to feel more comfortable in it. So they said it would take six months to arrive. I ordered it in January 2020, my wedding was in the beginning of October. Then I get a call about five months later saying that due to the pandemic my dress would be delayed another month. My dress came in at mid-August, and it turned out that they had ordered a smaller size. The seamstress was worried they wouldn’t be able to let out the dress. It all ended up working out, but I didn’t get my dress until about two weeks before my wedding which had me on the edge a little bit. 😂
