If I saw someone wearing Regency clothing... *Zack Pinsent enters the room* In all seriousness, your channel along with the aforementioned gentleman's are great resources for historical menswear. I am very much looking forward to any content you put out. And don't mind the occasional technical difficulties. Your content is invaluable, and the detail is warranted given the severe lack of information on this compared to women's dress. Since I'm a woman wanting to incorporate elements of historical garments particularly men's into my everyday wear, buying antique clothing isn't really an option. So I'll be attempting to make all my own clothes. I'm currently working on improving my sewing skills by making pyjamas and trying to find books on sewing historical menswear.

There are so many boring people out there... I'm always just filled with joy whenever I see someone dressed in a unique and artistic way in public, especially vintage styles, since that's what appeals to me personally. Or gender-bending or just in general expressing themselves. Anyone doing their own thing, even if I don't always love the style myself, always makes me really happy! Hi Sir! Uhmmm, I'm not sure if you know this (but from my research I've done, content creators here aren't notified of this), but your audio at around (27:13) became muted suddenly. The only thing is that I'm a blue-collar working man so I feel like I would probably only own a few items that fall under the whole "ultra-formal dapper gentleman" category and a lot more practical clothes that you might have seen railway workers back in those days wearing, I feel like that's a really underrated area that I haven't seen many history bounders online cover, which has made it a bit tough to know how to proceed into becoming an everyday Edwardian myself.

My question was answered. Lol. All goods on the mask. No worries. I do want to say, check out the Tatton Baird Hatters out of Springville, Utah. They make hats the old way, with the old antique equipment and their shop is just as much a museum as well. I believe they do online orders. The vintage style that fits me goes between Panco Villa and a railroad land surveyor or outdoorsman of the American West in the 1910s. As I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. The history of the American West and the railroad of that time is rich here. Its period and time whos fashion fits my style. I like the corduroy jodhpurs, tall riding boots and campaign hats. Finding tailors for the American style sack suit is difficult, as I a man of Polynesian ancestry, the clothes of the period in our many antique shops do not fit a man of my size. So I have to mainly rely on tailors who specialize in vintage clothing. Also, for me getting the confidence to wear vintage suit came easy. In Utah the LDS (Mormon) church is dominant. Every male wears a suit to church or to church meetings throughout the week. When I would go out it would be the hat that stood out, but the suit no one would bat eye as they thought you were going to or came from a church function. Anyways, great video.

Just found your channel researching how shirt/ collar studs work exactly... I mean, It's sort of easy to work out but nice to learn from someone who still wears them, you know? Not going to lie, I'm now desperate to dress like a late Victorian or Edwardian man (I'm a Mum in her mid 40's!!), I'm not new to historical dress & am massively in love with the Victorian era. I have 2 1890's women's outfits under construction as we speak & have made 2 mens half placket shirts from that era, that I adore & wear a lot, hence my research.... I have some gorgeous British wool suiting fabrics & think I *need* to get a design underway for a me sized Mens suit too. How small do collars go? (Though, I'm guessing they're not tricky to make yourself, either? If I can make entire shirts, collars on their own won't tax me, I don't think?) Any way, long story short, thank you!

Hello! That sounds wonderful. I can't wait to see it! If you're making your own collars to starch remember not to use contemporary fusing, you'll want all 3 plies to be in linen so that they can absorb the starch 😁 Modern fusing will prevent your collar from absorbing!

@bionodroid5474 ай бұрын
If he’s anywhere below Nikko, then it gets super hot and humid too. The answer usually has to do with fabric and cut. Fuller cut shirts are contemporary to the Edwardian period and canvassed worsted wool is less insulating than you might think (though flannels and other woollens will trap a lot of heat). Covering more of the body gives more protection from the sun, and assuming his underclothes are cotton or linen, they will wick moisture and cool via airpockets created by the jacket layer between the shirt. The hat also really reduces heat exhaustion. Finally, and most importantly, he has probably just gotten used to getting less comfortable when it’s extremely humid. But then again, it’s impossible to be comfortable when it’s humid.

It ended up been kept in such good condition because my great grandad was hit in the head with shrapnel a passchendaele and ended up spending the next 9 years in a psychiatric hospital then he died from complications from his head injury. I wanted to try the suit on but my great grandad was so much smaller he must only of been about 5 foot 4 or 5 with a 27 inch waist and 36 inch chest. Way to small for any of his descendants because out of my grandads grandkids I’m the smallest and I’m 6 foot 1 my brother is 6’2” and my 3 cousins are all 6’4”. Only thing missing was the collars and cuffs from the shirt. My grandads demob suit was there as well.

I actually groove on your awesome wardrobe. As a guy that dresses in Victorian style, I feel it's more like a middle finger to modern fashion. Never thought you were a metalhead, either. I would love to see more slapstick from you, also.

Can I ask about historical men's jewelry? I see you're wearing a ring on your pinky finger. Were signet or seal rings worn?

I have a question, do you wear the monocle just for style or are you actually short sighted and takes the opportunity to wear a monocle instead of regular glasses? Sorry for broken english, its not my mother language. Regards: Bruno

I have a question. Why are many vintage style enthousiasts into metal? Can't be just a coincidence.

Are you wearing a pre tied bow tie?
@heinzguderianbutmoreyounge96593 жыл бұрын
Maybe,back then many people wear pre tied because it was pain in hell to place the neckwear band at inside the stiff collar

Which Edwardian era? there were more than one King Edwards. There are 2 Elizabethan eras. So when talking about an era one should take about which King or Queen that era in under!
@dariel70012 ай бұрын
the edwardian era refers to the time of Queen Victoria's son. King Edward VII. in other terms its the early 20th century.

This is a very interesting comment, but there is only one Edwardian Era, and that is the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 until 1910. The reigns of Edward I, Edward II and Edward III were known as the 'Plantagenet Era'; Edward IV and Edward V both reigned during the 'Yorkist Era'; Edward VI was famously part of the 'Tudor Era'; Edward VIII reigned during what we usually term the 'Windsor Era', but didn't really reign long enough to be given an era to himself.

What size are you? Because people 100 years ago were smaller than we are now. We have my great grandads suit from about 1912 and it looks like it was for a 12 year old.

Hi there, I hope you can help with reccomendations. The persona I portray within our reenactment group is a 50+ year old sergeant who has served many years but is now a reletivley comfortable gentleman farmer. I'd like to wear civilian clothing too, i have a great shirt, waistcoat and trousers from Elgar Sirts here in the UK but my problem is a jacket to suit the image can you or your viewers help? Going to the loo... you're supposed to unbutton the braces, not strip down to your skivvies! (yes I knew someone...) I quite love vintage in real life (even if I don't do it myself)... I knew someone who occasionally wore Regency in public. Unfortunately the sound cut out when you mention being next to a hospital... I guess you're in a quiet zone...

Considering how low ‘Atsugiri Jason’ sets the comedy bar in Japan as far as _gaikokujin_ here are in on it (i.e., so low you’d measure his cringe-inducing nadirs in ‘fathoms’), you ought to be the proverbial shoo-in, mate! Edit - if you _do_ make a suit here in Japan, I’ll repost a reply I made in the comments down below; ‘Tamara’ in Kunitachi, West Tokyo. Full-canvassed suits (as well as half-canvassing for the budget-minded client), Holland & Sherry / English + myriad Japanese-produced fabrics, a real eye for tailoring. Shinohara-san is the guy, all made by him in-house. He’s done two suits for me now, as well as my off-the-rack suits’ adjustments. He’s not a franchise like ‘Azabu’ or anything. Failing that, Isetan in Shinjuku has personal tailoring that’s alright but it’s all just half-canvassed, though very high quality regardless.
