Thank, you, Dr. K! I am preparing a presentation to the medical students and residents (courtesy of the Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group you encouraged me to join) at my local university hospital about WFPB'd eating. I am anticipating some pushback, as always, when talking about this issue and this video is going to help me answer some of the criticisms of this lifestyle very succinctly and with a positive spin. We are not just talking to the student, but we are also preparing a delicious "build a bowl" array of delightful whole foods for them to assemble and eat while I talk. I ate many a free meal as a student and resident, but nothing as healthy and delicious as these young people will be served. Thank you for your continual inspiration.

KarenSeale9372 That is so exciting about your presentation! The build a bowl piece sounds great to show these young medical professionals examples of what to eat. You are doing really important work!

@@OkieGal2The problem is what medical student has time to make a dozen or two different items to build a bowl with. It is the hospital and university kitchens and restaurants that need to be taught how to prepare vegan food and spreads of plant foods….

Also should be mentioned a variety of parasites found in meat and fish in particular. They are not easily destroyed by cooking and comfortably migrate from one host to another. They survive in human bodies for years.

As a dietitian and a vegan...here's what I think about it...okay, there are three problems.... the human health problem, the environmental damage problem, and the animal welfare problem. For the last two, for SURE a fully plant based diet is the solution; and as for the human health issue is concerned, a >90% plant based unprocessed diet is where we need to be at the very least. So, at THE VERY least, we need to be eating an order of magnitude less animal foods than we are right now. But we're not even close to that! So, vegan/nonvegan is a bit of a false dichotomy. We need to stop CAFO-farming, that would get rid of 90% of the livestock right there. After that, the VERY LEAST we can do, is make sure animals raised for food are given decent lives and painless deaths. I'm not saying that's where we should stop, but it is the very least we can do!

Yeah, if a progressive approach to a plant based diet will yield better results in certain situations then an all or nothing approach, then it should be considered.
@peter5.056
@peter5.056 Жыл бұрын
@@MikhaelBattaglia What I'm saying is, we're focusing on the vegan/not vegan dichotomy, and getting nowhere. Practically speaking, the most effective way to advance animal rights, is to simply enforce the animal cruelty laws that are already on the books in most of the world, while acknowledging the fact that CAFOs are factually illegal, immoral, and cruel. I frankly don't give a hoot how many ppl are vegan; I just want CAFOs to be rightfully shunned by civil society. I believe it is prerequisite to any real change.
@someguy2135
@someguy2135 Жыл бұрын
CAFO's are only one aspect of factory farming practices that should be banned. All of them should be. Here in the USA, our elected leaders are hesitant to mention legislation that would move in this direction, let alone getting it passed. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker have introduced a bill that has gone nowhere. We, the voters need to show our support for such progressive laws by boycotting animal products in sufficient numbers to impress our elected leaders. Another needed change for progress would be to end federal subsidies of animal agriculture, as well as the government promotion of it. The US government has made similar needed changes in regards to tobacco. That should be the model for animal products.
@peter5.056
@peter5.056 Жыл бұрын
@@someguy2135 it needs to become socially unacceptable before it can ever be banned;) the way to that, is to go after the worst offender, which is CAFOs. once we admit that cafos are evil, it's a pretty easy row to hoe. the hard part is getting ppl to understand that their chicken sandwich is reprehensible.

There is NO such thing as a "painless" (humane) death!! Anyone who is not vegan and supports unnecessary animal cruelty is a psychopath... especially referring to the ones who KNOW and have seen documentaries (i.e EARTHLINGS) yet continue the ABUSE!! 👎 I went vegan 13 years ago it's super cheap and not difficult there is NO bloody excuse... none whatsoever to not be one!!!

Thank you Dr. Klaper!! Do you have any suggestions for dealing with cancer cachexia with an Advanced, Inoperable solid Uterine tumor. My best idea is plant-based diet, low protein, low fat..and maybe an “autoimmune “ protocol ? like Dr. Goldner writes about? Kale smoothies and high raw foods? Any thoughts?

How do we get our corporate healthcare system to change. I have an idea. Should we start picking our doctors based in their Waist size? Maybe then these HMOs will Force their doctors to learn lifestyle medicine and plant based nutrition? Patients Must exert some pressure on system for these profitable corporations to change. Maybe if we Stop going to Fat doctors... that is one way? 🤷‍♀️ Patients need to find some way to organize.

I followed a whole food plant based diet g or the past 4 years. It was almost SOS free. I traveled to Korea and Europe a year ago for 6 weeks each and there I had fish and regular food - no meat ever. In Dec I had a left pontine stroke that left my right side paralyzed. I had borderline high blood pressure and cholesterol even with the strict diet. I had normal weight, am 62 and did moderate exercise regularly. I have never done drugs and for the first time in my life had a wonderful boss and a stress free job. Go figure.

Maybe you have genetically higher choline requirements than average? It is possible you developed a choline deficiency. Eggs are the easiest way to get choline in your diet.
