Q&A with Stella Assange and Yanis Varoufakis: Ithaca film screening - A Fight to Free Julian Assange

The most important political prisoner of our time remains for the fourth year in the maximum security prison of Belmarsh in Britain, awaiting extradition to the USA where he is threatened with a 175-year prison sentence. The ‘crime’ for which Julian Assange is suffering this slow death sentence was his courageous contribution to exposing the war crimes and government corruption of the powerful of the earth. The defence of the founder of Wikileaks is currently the leading battle for freedom of speech internationally.
mέta, DiEM25's Centre for Post-Capitalist Civilisation does not want to be absent from this battle. It was a great pleasure and honour to welcome the wife of the Wikileaks founder and pioneer of the fight for his release, Stella Morris-Assange, who addressed the audience following the screening of Ithaca, together with the secretary of MeRA25 and co-founder of DiEM25 and the Progressive International, Yanis Varoufakis.

This is why i love and respect Yanis Varoufakis and Danae so much and why i am a proud member of Diem25... they continue to fight for Julian Assange, they lend their considerable strength to this most important of all issues, the struggle for freedom that can only triumph in transparency, why this is difficut for many people to understand i dont know? without freedom of the press we are all in a prison, it is crystal clear the only force against Julian Assange is the most powerful corrupt forces on earth, as the film clearly demonstrates. Thank you to wonderful Stella and ofcourse to Julian. We are all eternally in his debt. And to Yanis and Danae who have the courage to continue fighting on the side of the underdog who happen to be most of us and the best of us.
