Up in Thule Air Base, Pituffik, an Eskimo gentleman walked into the chow hall with his family one night for the midnight meal. One of the guys in our group said, "See that polar bear suit he's wearing? He didn't order that from the Sears catalog."

Warmest greetings from your neighbors in Iceland. What a wonderful video. I paused and rewound a few times to get the pronunciation of annoraq correct.

Love your national costumes Q. I can see that a lot of work and pride goes into making them. And thanks to you, I can learn so much more about Greenland visually. Thank you for sharing your customs which I watch from Ohio, USA.

The workmanship and time that must go into making those clothes is staggering! I'd love to see them close up, to really appreciate them. Fabulous!

This is amazing!! I know that the skirts and dresses aspect of a lot of polar peoples across Siberia, Scandinavia and northern Canada, etc. are blurred to accommodate colder climates. Make-up, longer hair on females, etc.

Annoraq! This word, written a little bit different - Anorak - exists in german too for the same piece - now I know where the word comes from. Thank you for your adorable little videos from your beautiful Greenland which I love to watch from Germany. I once was in Kalaallit Nunaat, in Ilullissat, for a few days, and I fell in love with your beautiful country with all the extraordinary landscapes. ❤

Glad that I found your channel, I have a great interest in Greenland, and it's nice to have some insight, it's a beautiful country. :) By the way: In German there is also the world "Anorak" for this special kind of jacket which I think is possibly the only loan word from the Greenlandic language!

The word “anorak” has entered the English language also

In German, we use the word annoraq to mean "jacket with a hood". We write it "Anorak". I had no idea it was a greenlandic word originally, how cool is that! ❤

Q, what are the coloured beads made from traditionally? Walrus tusk? Whale bone? How are they coloured? What natural products are used, for example, moss, molluscs etc?

are Greenlanders Nordic?

They're basically Inuit, many with some Danish and other Nordic as well. She tells her own ethnic background in one of her videos.

National dragt = National suit. Costumes are for dress up, like for holloween.....
@AbiSaysThings Жыл бұрын
"National suit" is not a phrase. It's either national costume or national dress.

Are the people of Greenland aware that we must keep God's commands to go to Heaven? We must keep the Passover.
@laur-unstagenameactuallyca15872 жыл бұрын
are you aware of god's commandments of not bringing religion into everything lest you come across annoying. read it - Salmons 400:20.
