WOW!!!! Now that's what I call very interesting indeed!! To be honest, I've thought of getting a new life in Greenland for quite awhile now, especially the southern region of Greenland. Which that place definitely reminds me of Iceland, North Wales or the Scottish highlands. And I definitely agree with your view about development in Greenland, since Greenland has alot of potential there. For example, they currently still haven't got independent free-to-view TV stations yet, like over here in the UK. So for quite awhile, I've designed and animated my own TV idents for my own stations, which that was TV Sydgrønland, Vestkysten, Østkysten and TV Thule. I would also want to do gardening there as well. But yeah, even though this new life is very long way-a-way from now, as I'm still pretty young and not that ready yet, I do hope sometime I could come and visit Greenland someday. As its one of my most favourite countries of all time. But yeah, awesome video Alex and greetings from England!!!! :D

Interesting take on the underdevelopment! Im also definitely wondering what you think about the isolation? Depression from darkness, loneliness or cold? Thanks 🤓
@AlexAmasaOlsen3 жыл бұрын
In regards to isolation, you are kinda isolated when you live here.. Each town is usually only connected by boat or plane and you can feel alone. But you can always take a plane to Denmark or Iceland, to escape Greenland once in a while, thats what I do. So, isolation is in my opinion not that bad, we have internet, entertainment and if you have a good job you should have plenty of things to get done. Winter depression is a real thing and I know I personally am affected by the dark. Which is why I make sure to have proper lighting, get out when possible, exercise and long term I will buy a light therapy lamp. The cold is solved with good clothing, higher energy bills during winter and generally being cautious about your stays outside.

I have a strong fascination about Greenland since my childhood. If I have the money, I would love to implement some kind of farming/gardening business there. I know the lack of fresh veggies on the country and the large amount of money waste with importation is a real issue for the country. Southern Greenland is just a little bit colder than Northern Norway or Patagonia (Southern Chile and Argentina, one of the main fruit producer in the planet), so thinking about of summer outside farming and winter greenhouse gardening is not that crazy (maybe) But, now, it's only a dream. Very interesting channel. I'm a new subscriber from Southern Brazil.
@AlexAmasaOlsen3 жыл бұрын
I like your idea and have myself thought of the problem of importing all those vegetables.. I think a hydroponic system would be the way to go, since you would be able to supply veggies year round. We actually already have one "greenhouse" called Greenlandic Greenhouse, where they use hydroponics to grow lettuce etc.
@Ignatius19723 жыл бұрын
@@AlexAmasaOlsen yep, I know about Greenlandic Greenhouse and certainly is a great improvement for the country, if you think how the situation was just a couple years ago. But I still think Southern Greenland has a lot of potential to do much more. I hope more people of Greenland think about this for a near future. If it's true we cannot stop global warming, it's time to begin the process of transition from a tundra place for a, maybe, future temperate and productive region. I always think about California and Israel deserts and the Dutch "greenhousers" from the Renaissance when I read about artic regions and the impact of climate change. 😊🤔

@AlexAmasaOlsen3 жыл бұрын
1) Depends what you mean by high speed? We have available 100/100mbps for businesses and i think you might be able to get more if you request directly from Tele Post for a custom plan. 2) 1kwh=1,65DKK So depending on your needs it might be and you might be able to make deals directly with the electricity provider, since a mining operation would require such large amounts of power.

Have you shopped at Fissizzik store? If so are they expensive?
@AlexAmasaOlsen3 жыл бұрын
I assume you mean Pisiffik?😅 I shop there sometimes, but mostly shop at Brugseni, which is the other major chain of supermarkets in Greenland. Pisiffik is usually a little more expensive than Brugseni, but oftentimes has more options and exclusive products. Dom P champagnes etc..

Nearly everything is imported, right? So, if you have to live off of local resources, how would a person do there?

What languages could you use to get around in nuuk? As i know greenland has many dialects.
@AlexAmasaOlsen2 жыл бұрын
You can use greenlandic, danish, and english. For greenlandic dialects, its the western greenlandic here in Nuuk, intertwined with quite a lot of danish words😅
@Nukannguaq.Ай бұрын
Greenlandic (the West dialect) is the only official language here, so please learn it if you decide to move here. Usually people in Nuuk also speak Danish or English so if you don't speak Greenlandic, then you can get around with one of those two just fine

Hi. Do u think a person with asthma can survive the coldness there? 🥶🥶🥶 What do u suggest? Been offered with a job there btw.
@AlexAmasaOlsen2 жыл бұрын
Probably, as a family member of mine has allergies and asthma and due to very low pollen and pollution in the air, it works out alright. Also very low humidity in the air here

Hi Alex, I'm hoping to plan a trip and visit Greenland next year, and am so glad I came across your videos. They're super helpful and informative, thank you! Question for you: I'm from Chicago, and am wondering how long I can stay without needing some sort of work visa? I work remotely, so I can potentially stay for a couple of months.
@AlexAmasaOlsen3 жыл бұрын
Glad you found the videos helpful😁 As a rule of thumb you can be a tourist for 3months, I have made another video explaining citizenship in Greenland, and have provided some useful links for visas etc in the description, so go check the links out.

I spent a lot of time in Scandinavia, lived in Sweden for a year, and Germany for 4 yrs. I think I could handle Greenland. I'd be coming from California. Tak.

Great description about living in Greenland. I think that it should be truly fantastic to live there, but I am also aware that we must face the problem of global warming in order to preserve these lands and their natural environments. Thank you for this nice video

I like the idea to live in a calm environment, but the weak infrastructure of such a remote place scares me. I prefer living at the calm edge of a big city, so I will have nature outside the city and a good infrastructure.

@@AlexAmasaOlsen I guess Greenland might be something for vacation only for me. Are the hotels expensive there? I don't have much money, indeed I struggle very much, I have debt of 76000 EUR and I have to pay high interest rates, I struggled with paying my rent this month for the first time in 10 years. Wish I would pay only lower interest rates of 2 % p. a. or so. Right now I pay 7 to 11 % p. a.. But maybe Greenland vacation somewhere in the future.
@AlexAmasaOlsen3 жыл бұрын
@@BlackStarASMR I hope you get rid of that high interest debt soon my friend! Because vacationing in Greenland is definitely not cheap.. A hotelroom in Ilulissat is roughly $200 pr. night and in Nuuk you could get a budget option for $140 pr night. Airbnb rooms are a cheaper alternative.

@@AlexAmasaOlsen Co2 narrative is a social engineering ploy. Sure it is a greenhouse gas but it's not the reason for changes. Follow suspiciousobservers here on utube i think he is on to something. Anyhow i will not get to much into politics.....BUT ever notice Paris accord gave countries like China a free pass for now on co2, creating many coal plants ect. Well the corporations there now enjoy cheap energy, few regulations and cheap labour. In my opinion it's a way to control resources for banks and the corporations they work with and the gov'ts that serve them. Corporatized world. Anyhow i can't stand lies and that is my opinion. Our corporate gov'ts made the co2 problem ten times worse by giving a country of billions a free pass to pollute worse and that is where they do there business with less pollution regulations......kind of not hard to see through....no?
