The Q50 gets the new Rear Diff Bushing from Z1 Motorsports. Although a bit labor-intensive, with some mechanical aptitude and some patience, I think you can handle this project, but please use this video as a guide only as I am not a professional mechanic. Take a look at the Z1 website for further tips and tool list. Full review series to follow shortly! Stay tuned.

If I had a suggestion for this, I would definitely say it wouldn't hurt to invest in an oscillating tool to cut out the rubber section of the bushing. It would probably cut through like butter and be very easily controllable. Very nice job documenting this job!
@SpeedCultureStudios
@SpeedCultureStudios 2 жыл бұрын
It might be worth a shot. I have one, but the blade is too wide and flat. If there are more narrow attachments, that might work--as long as it cuts the rubber and doesn't melt it. The chisel actually worked very well. I would also say that a small air saw for cutting the metal sleeve might be better than a reciprocating saw too.
@matthewpalm7484
@matthewpalm7484 2 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedCultureStudios The melting is a solid point, dealing with such a soft rubber.. there are very narrow attachments out there, but as long as the chisel works, no need to mess with a working system. I think a reciprocating saw is a pretty crude tool, so to me, I would probably just use a hacksaw to cut the relief strips, and then use a pry bar to bend the rest out of the way.. appreciate your response and quick action on creating this video!
@SpeedCultureStudios

@@matthewpalm7484 I didn't show it in the video, but I did use a little hacksaw as well. Takes a bit more elbow grease, but you can definitely control it better. I'd like to see someone use the oscillating tool though. Anything to make the job a bit easier and quicker would be great to know about!

Saw your other post about slowing down on your channel content, and the BS you have to deal with on YT. Sorry to hear it. I want to thank you for all of your videos thus far. After watching your "Simple" bushing replacement video, I ordered all of the parts from Z1 and enlisted my Nephew to help with the rear end re-build. My nephew and I knew it would be a hard job, so we alloted 3 days to complete. Not sure how you did it in 1. We referenced this video...A LOT...throughout the job, and do not think we would have been able to complete it with out your guidance. Z1's guide was just a supplement to your video. All said and done, it came out well, and the car performs nicely. Thank you for the work that it took to produce and explain this project, otherwise we would still be out there trying to figure out what to take off next, let alone where everything goes after replacing the bushings... Side note, as for hitting the two small front bushings 3-4 times, hammer and 32mm, and having them "POP Out..." We call BS Thanks for the channel, and look forward to watching more content.

It's really nice to see all the performance stuff you're doing on these Nissans. I have a 370Z, and so much of what you do on the Qs and Gs is applicable to mine. I had the Whiteline poly diff bushing set installed on my Z by a good shop in San Jose, CA and the improvement in the feel of the rear end was noticeable; my shifting also got better. My next project will be the slotted Akebono two-piece aluminum hat brakes for the Z, for an even greater reduction in unsprung mass. BTW: My last duty station when I got out of the Army in 1970 was at Ft Jackson, just outside Columbia. I used to like going to the town and going on long walks, to see some of the interesting historic sights.

I just did this on a '13 g37 sedan a day ago. Holy crap was it a nightmare. You have almost no access in the rear because of the truck's floor. It comes down much lower than on the Q50. Just enough a sneak a ratchet in. If you have access to a lift, I think the job would be much easier. But if you're gonna be on your back, anyone thinking about doing it had better be prepared for the undertaking. It's all super easy until everything is out and it's time to remove the rear bushing. I spent a half day just trying to press the bushing out with the z1 tool, 2 clicks of the ratchet at a time due to clearance issues. All that said, the car feels so freaking good now under hard acceleration and normal driving. I'm not sure I'd do the job again though.

I did the thr opposite with mine. The only bushing bad in mine was the sub frame one so I filled the opening were the original fluid filling was with quick set epoxy so I still have the rubber portion as "flex." I basically made a circular dam with a small hole in it big enough to allow my epoxy tip through it (like a straw on a cup lid) and filled that outer ring. Made a WORLD if difference, took 15 minutes, and about $6.00. Definitely not as good as a complete new bushing set but for those who don't wish to go through all of it, that does the job. Did it two years ago and it looks like the day I did it.

@@ashton9542 That's what I'm saying. They don't offer a Q50 3.7 specific mount. I generally don't like crossing parts over unless we know they are interchangeable. No G37 mount or Q50 3.0t mount says "also works for Q50 3.7." You're the first that I've seen say the G37 mount works on the Q. Mounting points and everything lined up? No issues?
@ashton9542
@ashton9542 2 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedCultureStudios So the cross brace the mount bolts to, you go up a few sizes on the hole so some drilling is required but it's into aluminum so it's easy. My '16 RS AWD started behaving rather consistently inconsistent, seem to be losing power with no DTCs, or background chassis control codes, abs etc. Than tonight I'm accelerating through a turn and the rear axle literally felt like it was coming loose from the chassis. Of course I'm counter steering, jerking the wheel, for no reason, I'll add. My pride and joy sure enough needs the rear differential bushing. She's only got a little over 110k miles on her, all four of my DDS struts/shocks are leaking and toast... Having come from the VQ platform to the VR is definitely night to day. I should have prepared for the DDS failures months ago, and no I'm not going coilovers,i actually like the handling characteristics the Monroe DDS struts/shocks give the chassis. I'll be ordering the Z1 bushing prolly tomorrow, I'm dreading the install. But so far in the five infiniti's I've owned, I've never taken any of them to a shop except for wheels, tires, and alignments. Thanks for the video! Also will a 3" hole saw be big enough diameter to remove the rubber insert?
