That’s what it’s all about man. I’ll take the pain so you don’t have to 😂. I think it’ll be great though! A little patience (which I don’t have) and cooler temperatures, this isn’t a bad job. Doing the diff bushing at the same time is what made it bad!

Just installed my Z1 LSD, and im very impressed that you installed this yourself. I did the install with me and my brother and it was still tedious. Overall not difficult but dropping that diff to remove the axles is a bitch.

I appreciate that James. Yeah it can be a little sketchy. Just have to double and triple check your stands and blocks lol. As I’ve gotten older I’ve become a little more cautious. I try not to work under the car if I’m home alone or if my wife is sleeping late at night.

For anyone performing this modification: Do not replace the side bearings unless they look like they need it. Messing with bearings can change your side to side preload. The FSM says to do so, but you're opening up a can of worms if you do. I would replace the dust shields as specified in the video.

Hi, To your knowledge, is there any Vr30 Q50 running this kit and doing some drag fun? This is calling my attention and was wondering if it would manage some 11s or 10s drag car.

@@alexisacevedo6121 We know there are some users that drive to the track and run drag. Specifically running those times, it's difficult to say though if you email us prior to ordering, we can ensure it's set up for this purpose. They are set up to handle high hp and torque already and installation is key:=)

Thanks for the video, I was wondering if you drained the Differential since installing and if it was nice and clean? I want to do this to a Camry TRD, but am worried how it will hold up.

No I have not drained it since install. I've only put maybe 500 miles on the car since, so it's not ready yet. The kit shouldn't really have an effect though as there is no metal/metal contact.

@@SpeedCultureStudios There is metal to metal contact, its what makes both axles lock. The box expands from the springs and pushes the gears on either side. Anyhow, thanks for the video on it, best one I could find on it. I am still interested on how it holds up. I really want to try one out.

Shouldn’t contribute to tire wear. It acts as an lsd so you shouldn’t get the chirping around corners-BUT it’ll make you want to do burnouts lol so I guess maybe it will 😂 They have a kit for awd as well!

~It will not add to wear. In fact, it will distribute the wear evenly to both sides which will also improve handling and should help with correcting torque steer issues when accelerating. ~Yes, we offer an LSD for the front q50 in the AWD models. The LSD Conversion Kit and the diff are different than the rear. Once will not work on the other.

No ratio change. I wish we had options available! The LSD conversion was installed on a spare carrier, but I used my factory housing and pinion gear so I had to move my factory ring gear over.

According to the manual you have to remove exhaust which I'm struggling to do because the bolts are stuck and rusted. When I look at your video I don't see you messing with those bolts yet your exhaust is detach from the car. Did I miss something?

I dropped the exhaust but I have my custom exhaust so it’s very simple to undo

What was the recommended break-in period and method? Traction Concepts is saying 250 miles is fine, but specified 750 would be great. I saw you doing slow figure 8's in a parking lot, etc. Wanna make sure this thing is broken in properly before I start playing around. TIA @SpeedCultureStudios

There really is no break in. I did the slow turns to just be sure there was no binding and no issues with install. There are really no parts to “break in” with this kit unless you are unsure of the spider gears being ground neatly. You could take it easy for a couple hundred miles just to be sure everything meshes nicely

How much did you save from not going to a shop to get it installed?

I would imagine shops would change 4-6 hours. Consider $100-$150 an hour. I’d say I saved at least $500. It’s not bad of a job honestly just time consuming

And essentially you just pulled a used q50 diff, got it converted into an lsd, and upgraded the diff as if you were replacing a worn out one right? How’s the longevity of the friction plates?

@@Jdeeeaaa that’s right. I’m not sure what they claim as the live span for the plates, but they have a great reputation across platforms and have them installed in some real crazy builds that take a lot of abuse so I’m sure they are solid

Hey, I’ve been wondering for a while what size is your hub rings? Did you do them customized?

They aren't customized, just ordered with the correct dimensions. Dimensions obviously depend on hub size and hub bore of the wheel. I want to say the Q50 hub is 66.1mm. I believe my wheel bore is 72.5mm. So the centering rings are a 66.1 to 72.5

Man, I have to do this to replace rear diff side seals due to a leak. Shops want to charge me $1000. I am going to do it myself. I have all the tools. This was a good video but I would love a step by step to feel more confident.

It really is a step by step. There isn’t anything more to it. You wouldn’t even necessarily need to break the diff open to change the seals.

"better" is subjective, of course, but the 3.1, in theory, has a slight advantage in low-end acceleration.

Where are you having trouble? I basically had to get in with my hands using both hands to pull the axels out. The pry bar is handy to get pull them out past the c clip and finding the right height of the diff to give you enough room

@@SpeedCultureStudios Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't realize you had moved the 2nd part of the drive shaft to the side because I was watching it on my phone. Once I did that getting the diff out was cake. Pushed it a couple inches forward and it slipped right onto my jack. Keep the videos coming. Your channel is great👍
