One thing I really hate about Piccolo's new transformation in Super Hero movie is that he got that transformation by a dragon's wish. Even though he has been training since forever, he had to resort to that to get stronger. And that's really frustrating for me as a Piccolo fan. I agree up until the people running part which could have been handled in a diff way. He was the son of King Piccolo, arguably the most public villain in DB history outside of Cell. People running from him and his constant compulsion to hide his identity supported that people recognized him. Along the same vein, it is very weird how Toriyama constantly forgot that the people of the earth should know of Goku. He was taking the World Tournaments to crazy levels in the 21st-23rd, his opponents were recognizable in the fight against the saiyans that shook the earth, and he was along side them in the cell games. papparazi alone should have pinned him alongside bulma as one of the world richest people.

"He died for white people". I been trying to tell people thus lol. Whether or not it was intentional piccolo character fits the trope of magical negro found in much of America's fiction. He's from a rough upbringing, is mistreated yet still for some reason sacrifices for the betterment of the young white protagonist, he has a ton of wisdom and experience that should make him super capable but for some odd reason he can't seem to do the thing he wants for himself, he has magical deus ex machina get shit done unexplainble powers (clothes beam, resistance to electrocution), and lastly he is treated as a caretaker for the white protagonists children even if that means giving up on his own aspirations. I think his similarities on top of the voice work and stylistic choices created a black energy in the minds of a western audience. He was certainly placed in the role we see black characters placed in American media.
