Hi Jayden, I’m surprised Qantas wouldn’t offer a full service Premium Economy, since it’s competitor (Cathay) offers it on this route . Qantas offer it on their Sydney to London via Singapore, as their other competitors ( SQ & BA) offer it, so I’m perplexed as to why Qantas wouldn’t offer it on their SYD- HK route…

Great video, Jayden! I love the SYD F lounge and agree it’s one of the best in the world. I can never get over how massive the A380 is! The interior looked pretty tired, so hopefully it’s up for a refurbishment soon. I was surprised at the amount of cost cutting with the meals. Given that’s a fairly competitive route, I would have expected QF to do better. The snack bar looked pretty sparse as well. Nice to see the A380 back in action!

Good flight. Sydney and Hong Kong weather was raining. I noticed that they have repainted the new livery with the Rolls Royce logo appearing on all four engines, however the interiors are so outdated and desperately needed a refresh. The in screen entertainment system looked so old and needed a refresh. Most of the 10-strong A380 fleet have been refurbished with new interiors, new HD entertainment system and a new seating reconfiguration.

I was on that very plane both ways between Sydney and Hong Kong, premium economy both ways, and got a spare seat on my returning leg (QF128 HKG-SYD) 6:38 I wonder what that guy was doing :o 10:28 I reckon I will get addicted to the old school departure boards when I next visit there 16:43 They served Appollo ice cream sticks on my HKG-SYD flight, maybe they now only offer ice creams on overnight flights? 19:59 I missed having hot chockies on those flights :(

They certainly need to upsize and introduce more food, looks drab. It was certainly different in 1996 with real porcelain dishes for the main course and 4 course meals in economy class. Still got the lovely printed menus from BNE to Hong kong and Bangkok to Heathrow back then as a kid. My memory was also the steward passing down the aisles with bottles of wine asking, any more wine folks! They were good back then. Hope they improve the meal service standards.

Ahaha I remember in 2019 when I flew Lufthansa, a crew walked down the aisle with two bottles of wines for refills! Haven’t seen that happening again since. Closest would be on JAL, crew giving out more tea.

if you're flying on the older configuration, get a seat upstairs, if not, the ones at the last row of each cabin is quite nice. No one behind you so you can recline as much as you want even during the meal service, and greater privacy too!

The solution for QF might be allowing the A330-200 & A330-300 Cantonese/Mandarin Crews to work on A380s this is like Oneworld Partner CX allowing B777-300/ER crew to work on A350-900 & A350-1000 Aeroplanes. If the A380 is not needed for SYD-HKG then it will do a hub to hub route SYD-DFW home to Partner AA with QF codeshare on AA DFW-EWR/LGA. Premium Economy is 2-4-2 same as A330-300 & A330-200

I flew QF HKG to SYD a couple weeks ago on economy, and I was disappointed on the meal selection and service compared to my experience last year from London to Melbourne on economy. Also my HKG to SYD flight had Cantonese speaker/announcement but not Mandarin... 🤔

Yeah HKG flights are somehow so-so. They don’t always have Cantonese or Mandarin crew on HKG flights, unlike Japanese flights there is no regulations

FYI i received the standard economy service since they do not sell premium economy on HK flights. On flights to London, Singapore, LA for example you’ll receive nicer meals, drinks in proper mugs and glasses etc :)

As much as I love public transport, Sydney's is really temperamental. I was caught by the train closures as well when I needed to go to Paramatta, where my cousin lives. You'd think QF would have Cantonese announcements for HK flights? Gosh, your 1st meal looked REEEEEEALLY sad. I don't want to trash QF but I really don't see the need to fly them anymore looking at their inflight offerings. I've got HEAPS of QF points accumulated and can't redeem them on international, so I'm stuck with domestic redemption. Enjoyed the video!

I’ve flown QF127/8 & 117/8 many many timesI notice most Cantonese crew are on A330. 747 and 380 are English only (and many of them speak an European language too) or sometimes Mandarin. The Mandarin PA in this video had a Taiwanese accent too haha.

It’s a hit and a miss to have a Cantonese speaking crew onboard. From experience, more of them are A330 crew so you rarely see them on A380 flights :)

they are currently renovating t1 qantas domestic terminal at Melbourne airport, I think the lounges are also getting revamp. The business lounge for qantas at t1 international sydney is not the best and often too overcrowded, but first class lounge is just like the one you were at in Adelaide in this video. I find it dangerous to keep your passport and boarding pass in the seat pocket. If you left your seat with them there, they may get stolen! Do you have tips on increasing your oneworld status to platinum or gold quickly or any other useful frequent flyer like Virgin Velocity?

They already renovated the lounges 4-5 years ago so just the terminal this time :) Choose connecting flights if it costs the same and you have time. More flights= more status :)

Compared to other premium economy meals (Emirates, BA, Virgin, CX etc) this definitely looks very very poor. Even the existing economy class meal is already below industry standard so having to eat the same meal in Premium Economy is a major disappointment

This is the second new QF trip report I’ve watched today (whilst flying QF PER-ADL myself…) and the cabins have all been embarrassingly dated and worn. Yes, I know this A380 is due for an upgrade and the 737s will be replaced over the next couple of years, but it’s really not a good look right now. That catering was just plain disgraceful, and smacks of endless cost-cutting.
