Qarabağ FK’s obsession with the Europa League & Champions League has its genesis in the sad facts of the club’s expulsion from its homeland.

I was given Azerbaijan as my country in a model UN, and did a lot of research regarding the conflict. I only studied the diplomatic repercussions, never imagined how it might affect the people in a footballing sense, thanks for bringing this to light tifo❤️

This representation is biased, one-sided only works for azerbaijan propaganda, but anyway it is sad that politics and wars can affect sports, and some people may chose their security over anything else. But the refusal of Mkhitaryan to play in Baku is not appreciated by all Armenians. I personally think that he could do his step towards peace and play there, but on the other hand you cannot be sure if they can keep his security, what if he scores there?

That's probably the greatest thing about this sport, you can go anywhere in the World and someone will have a life or death passion for the game. In any continent, in any country, in any culture, the love for football is rivaled by no other sport. Great stuff, as ever. A further point of interest in Azerbaijani football comes in the form of talented coach Roberto Bordin: who, after great success with FC Sheriff, is leading Neftçi PFK to the top of the table and, perhaps, even a league title. His career has been in low profile, obscure leagues so far - but there's something about the Italian..

Karabakh is the historical home of hundreds of thousands of "native" armenians? Are you serious? The original inhabitants of these lands were azerbaijani turks. From the 1820s, during almost 90 years, over 1 million armenians were relocated to the South Caucasus from Iran and Ottoman Empire. Just read the history, guys.

I like this channel, you are doing great stuff regarding football, but in this video you did a one-sided representation of the conflict, it seems that azeri propaganda through this club made a huge impact. There are many incorrect (or should I again say one-sided) language, vision and facts both politically and historically. There is no occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenian forces, you may say occupation of some bordering regions, but even that is a term to discuss. Aghdam and it's neighboring territories (and the whole Artsakh region) were historic Armenian lands for centuries before turks even came to this region, and the vast majority of it's population was ethnic Armenian before soviets came. Being a European you may not know this, I don't judge you for not knowing, but before making a video, you need to do some basic research, and there is no any way you wouldn't hit to this facts. So I suppose you either didn't do a research, or you intentionally made it a part of azeri propaganda. Watching old videos in this channel (like the one about Ivan Savvidis, Shakhtar Donetsk's Rinat Akhmetov, Roman Abramovich, Katar 2022) I thought you are doing research and making unbiased and unprejudiced points as much as it is possible. Now I wonder if this one is the only one that went so biased.

@@maxg18 according to Wilson principles a nation has rights in the lands that they are majority. So Armenians wanted to become majority in Eastern Anatolia to claim these lands for themselves. What followed was a barbaric and ruthless massacres of thousands of Turkish civilians. In Turkey our elders tell us stories about how Armenians massacred their families and some of them even burnt alive. When the Turkish army arrived there Armenians simply hid behind Russia and claimed those murdered people were Armenians and Turks did all these. And there you have so called "Armenian Genocide". I am not saying Turks didn't kill any Armenians but we didn't have intentions for ethnic cleansing. We were defending our people and we were already majority in Eastern Anatolia, Armenians had intentions for ethnic cleansing. Thus Armenians tried to commit a genocide.

You sympathise with the Azerbaijani government over Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh but I see it differently. The people there have never wanted to be a part of Azerbaijan. They've for a hundred years now wanted to become an independent state with very close ties to Armenia but Azerbaijan blocks this. Armenia occupies them right now and were they not then Azerbaijan would be occupying them. If I was an ethnic Armenian from there then I'd far rather the current set up to being at the mercy of the Azerbaijani state.

I think you did a good job in covering the football part of football history, but not the history part. Nagorno Karabakh was and is inhabited by Armenians and they comprised the majority there. It was only because Stalin that the region became part of the Azerbaijani SSR. Most karabakhis were strongly anti-Azerbaijan, and without mentioning this makes people think that Armenia is a foreign invader that wants to suppress the locals and even kicked out their football club. Also praising Aliyev as a savior without considering him, being a corrupt de-facto dictator, was using this to maintain Azerbaijanis’ anti-Armenian sentiments to solidify his legitimacy is a bit ironic, eh? It’s like saying Hitler is a savior to public health because he implemented the first anti-tobacco campaign. I like your channel and most of the videos you made, but this one really sounds biased and you presented a controversial topic badly.

Tifo, I love your videos, but I don’t think there was enough effort to make the history here balanced. The context of the Karabakh conflict is genocide and ethnic cleansing, over the 20th century, perpetrated by the Azeris. They aren’t innocent victims as the video - perhaps unintentionally - implies.

what you're actually complaining about is that they made the video too balanced, and not as biased as your thoughts on the matter...

The Karabakh region itself is not Azeri. That’s why they lost it in the war despite having military superiority on paper - the Azeri conscripts didn’t care enough to fight for it, the soldiers were hardly trying.

Fortunately, since November 2020, FC Karabakh ceased to be a refugee club, because Aghdam was liberated from occupation, like the rest of Karabakh, including Nagorno-Karabakh :)
