Glad to hear a former player (and a pro QB at that) confirm what I've said forever. It's in a rookie QB's best interest to hold a clipboard for a while, Pat McAfee said the same thing about a QB even as pro ready as Andrew Luck. Look at what happened with the Colts. Matt Ryan had a horrible season and was benched in favor of Sam Ehlinger. The scenario John just described -- the veteran sputters, is benched and now the new guy gets thrown into the fire -- is the exact reason a great coach like Andy Reid sits Patrick Mahomes for his first year so that he can learn how to do it from Alex Smith. The rookie who saves the season from the first time he takes a real snap happens so rarely, it shouldn't even be considered. And yet it is.
@117Awesome Жыл бұрын
It’s a different situation though, Alex Smith was playing MVP level football before he got hurt and had a bunch of weapons and elite coaching. Most teams in a position to draft a guy in the top 10 don’t have that luxury. They could tread out a veteran who can’t run the offense well because they don’t have the weapons or O line.
@gabesoto9301 Жыл бұрын
I think any team that takes AR is taking him with the understanding that he’s going to need to sit for at least a full year. I think he’s going to Indy and he’ll sit behind Gardner Minshew and Nick Foles. Idk why he was acting like the Colts had no one capable of helping AR along the way. At this point, Minshew has been around the block and been a starter as well as a backup. And Foles has obviously been a pro for a long time now. I think Minshew starts for a year, Foles is the backup and AR is the 3rd QB.
