Күн бұрын

Once again, I was driving around looking for a good yard (or bad) to do a youtube transformation video. I knocked on this random person's door and offered to do a free makeover, only to be declined. So I gave the homeowner my business card and said if he changes his mind to give me a call. A few weeks later, I received a call asking if I was still interested in the cleanup. As you can see, I was definitely interested in doing this one. The homeowner is actually undergoing treatment for cancer and hasn't been able to look after his garden for some time, as the treatment is quite severs and leaves you with little energy to do everyday things. Hopefully, with this little bit of help, he will be able to maintain his yard moving forward and make his life a bit easier. This cleanup will only be on the front of the property. All up, I spent around 12.5 hours on this job, with 3 trips to the landfill.

FAQ's:
Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

Really tricky job this time, George, with plenty to sort. I feel this is not just a lawncare exercise but a true community assist. Many people don't realise how exhausting treatments for cancer are. The spirit may well be willing, but as they say, the flesh is weak. Evidenced by the delay getting back to you. It shows they are proud enough not to want help, but know that they need it. Not being able to keep on top of a large job like this can be equally impacting on a patient's MH. Doing it for "free" using KZbin as the funding source must have really made them feel better about their sad situation. Fabulous job as always.

The thing that really surprises me is that all of the properties surrounding this one appear to be well looked after. Here in the UK, if that was in our street and we new that the owner couldn't manage to keep it tidy, we would get together and do it for them. Is there no community spirit left.

This was a job! How wonderful for this man trying to get back on his feet. Prayers for his fight with cancer. He has his yard back! One last thing to worry about. Love how you focus on cleaning up sections at a time. So much to haul away! 👏 Love your channel 😊 Seattle says hi

I love this channel because you clean up as you work, and you don't just blow the clippings onto the lawn and leave it. When you are done the area you did your magic on looks so neat and tidy. I also love your little silver can.

George, you have graced this client's front yard with with your skills, hard work, determination and removal of bundles of limbs and scattered tree trunks, green waste and yard clippings. It is now a respectable and useful part of the property. I could only guess at the last time the driveway was used as such at +/- 20 years? Thank you for reaching out to this man in his time of need and disability. BTW, some poor folks cast aspersions/doubts on others what they themselves do. Like the proverbial water on the duck's back...sod off. You are aces in my book.🎉😊

Excellence in action! You're very precise, you clean as you go, you haul off the green waste and rubbish, and you mow several times! (I'm sure I'm forgetting something.). I am looking forward to seeing part II! The ivy should go, the tree by the driveway should go, and the footpath and driveway NEED pressure washing badly. The back yard! That could be its own video!

What you’re doing is such a kind and selfless thing for others. My health has gone downhill myself, and I loved to keep my yard up with hard work. I was even in the California Conservation Corps in my younger years, doing work like this. Luckily I have family that is able to keep it up. So many people are alone out there, starting in your community and working outwards is how it’s done 🙏🥰💖 Thank you for what you do 🙏🥰💖🌎🦄💕🐉🌈🦋💖🥰

You know, George. I wonder if you are ever curious why people watch lawn care videos? I thought I would volunteer my reasoning in case you are curious. I have MS and live in Arizona where the summers can get up to 120* F. So it’s pretty hot and people with Multiple sclerosis are often very heat/cold sensitive. There is something with MS that doesn’t allow us to regulate our body temps and once hot it can take an hour or more to cool off. I love to garden and do lawn care but I can no longer do it so watching you do it gives me a kind of fulfillment of a sort ❤

Fantastic job, you are to be commended for your diligent work ethic. However, this neglect did not happen overnight as evidenced by the years of overgrowth. Cancer or healthy, this homeowner has not taken care of his yard for years. I hope after this cleanup, he or a kind person who cares, helps keep this place manageable.

I’d really be interested in knowing how many trips to the dump this took? 😮 so many tree limbs to clear plus just general waste, grass. Where is the front of the house? There is no way anyone sick could have been able to do this. I’ve watched a number of your clean ups and everyone is amazing.. can’t believe you even have time between your regular clients to do this for people. Well done

Those white flowers look like Calla Lilies. They are beautiful. They have been against that fence, blooming all this time. Resilient!! They could also be Arthuriams. Looks as if there is a yellow spear coming out of the center of the flower. I usually see them in red.

Poor little house, much in need of some TLC, which thank goodness it got. Certainly looked 100% better. That is an Arum Lily which I always associate with funerals. Bit close to home this week. I love Bottlebrushes and am going to get a red one next year, if this rain doesn’t ruin my garden. Wonder what the back is like…..🤔🙂

At 15:55 you put a text on screen saying, "These are a type of lily". Yes, they are. They are "Calla Lilies", which for a reason unknown to me, are sometimes associated with funerals. Personally, I think they are beautiful flowers, and at my parents old home we had a small plantation of them. Absolutely delightful flowers.
