JR East's Hachiko Line is a line that connects Hachioji and Takasaki.
The route's name is a combination of Hachioji's Hachi and Takasaki's ``Kou'', which is another reading of the kanji ``高''.
Construction of this line was planned by the government, and the entire line opened in 1934. The line was planned to be constructed with the focus on development along the railway rather than connecting major cities, but development along the line was delayed, and until recent years the line had a locally colored atmosphere.
In 1996, after the population increased along the line, the line between Hachioji Station and Komagawa Station was electrified, and EMU operation began with direct access to the Kawagoe Line, which connects at Komagawa Station.
On the other hand, diesel cars are still being operated between Komagawa Station, which was not electrified at that time, and Takasaki Station.
This video contains a cab view of the electrified section of the Hachiko Line from Haijima Station to Komagawa Station. Although the number of condominiums has increased along the line, there is still much undeveloped land, and the scenery is reminiscent of autumn in Japan's mountain villages.
Additionally, at the end of the video, we added a scene showing Koma Shrine, which is a 20-minute walk from Komagawa Station, and the route to the shrine.

Interesting and varied journey with beautiful autumn colours 👍 There was a lot of work going on on the track at the time - it was noticeable that all the workers on the track either gave hand signals (or simply greeted the train driver) or signalled their attention with a yellow or green flag... I've never noticed that in my home country: there, the working track workers are warned by a horn, operated by an employee of the track construction company who is solely responsible for this important and life-saving measure... ☺️

It's not captured on my lens, but the driver at the time was a young woman, who rang the typhoon and then greeted the track worker with her hand. It was very elegant and cool. In response, the track worker returned the gesture with a flag. I felt like I wanted to take a picture of that rather than the cab view. 😅

That was an enjoyable journey! And I'm glad you explained the line's name, because when I saw the romaji I wondered whether it was named after the famous dog!

You knew the faithful dog Hachiko. That's good. (^_^) Of course, this route is not named after the dog, but by connecting (Hati)ouzi and (Taka)saki. Another name for the characte(高)Taka)'' is Kou. Is it something like B&O Railway?

@14ikesan12 yes, naming a line from parts of the names of stations happens here in the UK too. The Bakerloo Line was originally the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway, and the Bedpan Line is the unofficial name of the service from Bedford to Saint Pancras.

@@BoredInNW6 Japan's railways imported their system from the UK (so they drive on the left and have platforms and ticket gates), so it's probably the same method.

@@14ikesan12 Even the markings/signs next to the rail tracks are similar to my country which was a British colony at one stage.
