That young man is an excellent engineer. I operated old locomotives when I first started out and it takes time to learn how to give a smooth ride running those older brakes and controllers. Good job!

Thank you for your comment. You have experience as an engineer. This type of braking operation sounds difficult, doesn't it?

@@ED761011 It looks intimidating and it does take time to learn how to use a system like that. It's all manual operation and the operator has to physically move separate handles for the power, the train brake and locomotive brake. Most newer electronic systems have the power and brake in one controller and everything is controlled by electronic signals from the controller. I was an engineer for about ten years and then transferred to the mechanical repair department for the next twenty five years. Thanks for posting this cab ride it was quite interesting to see the Japanese system on that type of locomotive and the engineer that operates it. I watch a lot of cab rides through Japan and I tell my old railroad friends if you want to see a lot of different types of railroad go to Japan. Japan has such a large variety of railroad from local one car diesels to the Shinkansen and freight coming from Hokkaido through the tunnel . Very interesting.
