These are fantastic! Always nice to see Alex get an airing. I would have sworn that the Klaxon isn't 100% pre-programmed -- didn't it say "SORRY" to someone this series?
@alexhbell5 жыл бұрын
homagetogorto Yes! I do keep a page of pre-programmed generic answers like YES and NO and SORRY although they’re really more for joke klaxons rather than gameplay ones that you’d lose points for hitting. but often people ask whether we time them in live which we never do. It takes a minute or so to add a klaxon
@homagetogorto5 жыл бұрын
@@alexhbell Then I admire your restraint in not overusing these. I can only think of three instances (that made it to air, at least) where the Klaxon and the panelist were "chatting", and two of those were in the same episode. It's hilarious because it's so unexpected. I suppose if you could create new ones quickly, you WOULD have typed in "Mitchell is a dick" as he requested in that famous battle of wits.

A lot of the facts mentioned on NSTAAF are later included in QI. So two birds with one stone
@tailortelhais17445 жыл бұрын
The whole conceit of No Such Thing as a Fish is that they merely share their "favourite facts from the last seven days", and obviously doing research for QI gives them plenty of material for the podcast. So they don't need much more than an hour a week for NSTaaF. And sharing facts and delving into the subject matter around them on the podcast is presumably a great way to think of other facts and ideas for QI in turn anyway.
@tobz10005 жыл бұрын
There's also editing, tours, and the books - still impressive!

Speaking about the origins of chewing gum; the inhabitants of Chios used the resin of the mastic trees as chewing gum, or maybe they still do. I believe it’s still used in things like toothpaste.
@robburgess45565 жыл бұрын
I have a question about the klaxon answers. Sometimes what flashes on the screen is in reply to something that was said. ('I don't like that font' "SORRY") Do you have a few keywords assigned or can you type things in?
@homagetogorto5 жыл бұрын
Rob Burgess Alex answered above that even the generic answers are pre-programmed as it takes too long to do one in real-time. You can see them at 1:43 - and BLUE WHALE is one of them! Curiously, so is LAY DOWN, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it used.
@alexhbell5 жыл бұрын
homagetogorto aha lay down refers to when we lay down all the klaxons to tape after the show (ie make sure we have a clean copy of all media used in the show in case it’s ever needed in the edit)

There is a way to get the gum to go through your body faster; I don't know if this applies to all gum, but various varieties, if you chew them for long enough, eventually liquify.

As a left brained person, I can categorically state: almost all klaxons are prearranged. However responses to the show do occur. For instance when VCM told everyone about her QI nightmare... the show recreated it for her. I don’t believe that was prearranged.

Fun fact about chewing gum - It does take seven years to digest! But it passes through your system before it gets a chance. That's likely where the myth came from - someone misheard it, or exaggerated it.
