My memory might be mistaken here, but I believe on a behind the scenes episode or a Fish episode it was mentioned that the staff of each episode changes, so, for example, sometimes Alex runs the klaxon for an episode, sometimes it's Anna. I think. Like I said, could be wrong hehe

There's a possibility there was a few seconds between that and the klaxon that was edited out of the show entirely, so it wouldn't appear in either the normal or XL version.

They can definitely type in custom texts, but they usually go by pre-typed ones. I think "sorry" is one of the standard options, since it's come up a few times and always very quickly. On the other hand it's a very short word and could be typed in a second.

David has a point, it really seems like the kind of solution you'd come up with at 3 PM on a Friday. "Well why don't we just toss them in a sack, and let the air do the job for us? Proper cooling would take too long to plan out, and I just wanna hit the pub right now."

@@SpeccyMan Ballsacks - the retractable and adjustable thermostats of the human body. May contain nuts. But I do see what you mean. I'm not saying the design is completely flawed, it just seems like an early prototype that has some glaring issues that would need to be ironed out before release. Specifically the part about having very sensitive reproductive organs dangle like that, an easy target for any would-be kickers, and use adjustable air cooling rather than the more traditional cooling method of adjusting the heat of the blood going to the organs. Or well, at least it isn't like that alien from one of the Men In Black movies, where the ballsack is located on the chin. Would make for awkward watercooler moments, not to mention resting your chin on your hands would be very uncomfortable.

That paper strip thermometer thingy was what my mum used on us kids when I was a little tyke in the early 80's. It wasn't really very reliable, but she knew that - she used it to check for outright high fevers (since she didn't trust the old hand-on-forehead thing, which is often reliant on the person whose hand it is not having cold hands - which she had), not for any precision, and for *that* it worked pretty well.

I did jury duty in the US during the summer where the judge wouldn't allow us to submit a verdict of undecided. Eventually the AC turned off, and we were in a small room on an upper floor with no open windows. The baliff claimed the AC was automated and there was nothing they could do. We all suspected it was a ploy that the judge and co. used to force juries to come to a decision more quickly. It's probably still going on.

The 98.6 °F figure is quite old. For years I thought it was an improper conversion from 37 °C--that is, the original measurement was stated precise to 1 °C, but it was then converted to 98.6 °F without correctly rounding the result. It turns out that isn't quite true. Although Carl Reinhold August Wunderlich's 1851 paper does state the average as "37 °C," this was not a rounded figure, as all other figures are given to 0.1 °C. Rather, at the time, there just wasn't the modern convention of significant figures. (Today, we would write it 37.0 °C.) Rather, Wunderlich's measurements were simply biased, being based only on military men, and his equipment may not have been perfectly calibrated. Additionally, the mean body temperature appears to have dropped slightly over the last 170 years. Today, the average for healthy adults seems to be more like 36.6 °C = 97.9 °F (according to some sources; others give values as high as 98.2 °F, so I guess even today there is no scholarly consensus). EDIT: It is not the case that Wunderlich believed armpit temperatures accurately reflected core temperature. He knew they would be lower and attempted to calibrate his thermometer so as to account for the discrepancy. He used numerous oral and rectal measurements to do so.

They need to do a special segment about all the times that the klaxon has had to say 'SORRY' whenever it unfairly penalizes one of the panelists. Plus the time (Quests Part 2) when Joe Lycett complained about the font, and the klaxon replied with 'SORRY'!

All I have to say about the subject of the different temperature preferences in the office is that you can always put on more clothes. But especially in the office there are very strong to taboos against taking off clothes. I mean, if it's warm enough I would be comfortable walking around in nothing but a loin cloth. Or if you prefer you can turn it down a bit and put on a sweater.

I really do love Sandi, but I think it'd be agreeable to everyone that Stephen had a wider breadth of interests and was more receptive to various input. For this reason Stephen would be a terrible panelist-and while Sandi doesn't make for a terrible host, her forcefulness in certain directions over others makes her a better panelist than a host.

The fact that is completely missed is that the body is not the same temperature all over. The extremities are a lower temperature than the core of your body.
@221b-Maker-Street
@221b-Maker-Street 3 жыл бұрын
In an emergency situation, it's only the _core body temperature_ that a clinician is really interested in - that lets us know if your organs are under threat in any way, and whether you need emergency treatment, as when it's unstable, you can't maintain the integrity of your physiology. But peripheral temperature is a helpful indicator of fever or less serious infection.

I don't think it's missed. It's just that measuring that requires an invasive procedure. As I understand it you can swallow a wireless thermometer or you can have one inserted up your butt. Also I don't think your tongue qualifies as an extremity. That would be a finger or a toe.
