Create awesome fusion solos, outside blues licks, Jazz solos and eerie metal riffs with this altered dominant scale, a.k.a. the super Locrian scale and diminished whole tone scale. This scale is perfect for improvising over dominant chords and altered chords, but also to create riffs and licks with lots of tensions and dissonance. The altered dominant scale is the 7th mode of the melodic minor scale and is used often in Jazz and fusion rock by guitarists like Guthrie Govan, Frank Gambale, Plini, Shaun Lane, Scott Henderson and by the master of fusion guitar: Alan Holdsworth to name a few.
In this guitar tutorial about the altered scale you’ll learn everything about this beautiful scale in a crystal clear way with examples and tablature.

Clearest explanation I’ve heard so far. Thank you for adding the dominant diminished relationship in there. I did not put that together hahaha

Nice lesson. I've been learning to apply the Altered scale using your Em9 backing track with the Bb13 V chord for this past week. And I've been puzzled by the HW Diminished relation to it for longer than that. Thanks!

great video. thanks so much. I am curious if the diagram at @06:30 is wrong? There should be a natural 7th, not a flat 7th in the melodic minor: B is a half step away from C, not a whole step. Just want to make sure I understand all of this.

Did your diagram of the melodic minor scale have a dominant 7th rather than a major 7th as you described? I am confused. Please elucidate.
@QJamTracks
@QJamTracks 6 ай бұрын
It should be a major 7th. The melodic minor scale has the the structure of a major scale, but it has a minor 3rd: 1-2-b3-4-5-6-7 Excuse me for the inconvenience...

At 3:47, there's a G7b13 chord, but it shows the note leading to the 3rd of the Cmaj7 (E) as a Db. Shouldn't this be an Eb? Db is on the 2nd fret, and is a b5, not a b13 of G dominant chords.
@QJamTracks
@QJamTracks 3 жыл бұрын
That should have been a Eb instead of a Db. The Eb resolves to E. Thanks for pointing that out to me a.p.
