It is very rewarding when, after a lot of practice, these things become fairly automatic and ones mind is free to address the situation at hand. Quake becomes almost meditative at that point, and it is incredibly fulfilling. thank you for taking the time to make this and the railgun video. It is a wonderful service to Quake players.

I am a Jazz Drummer offline, and I've found there is an interesting parallel between quake and drums... so much so that playing quake late at night (when I cannot play loud drums) tends to fill the same need for me, and in certain ways each activity benefits the other. I'd go on and on about this to clarify, but I'd feel ridiculous putting such effort into a comment. Again, I am sincerely grateful for your efforts on these videos. "Benefit all mankind"

It really depends. Higher FOV can help you strafe jump, since you don't have to make the mouse movements as wide to hit the correct angles. Low FOV can also bite you in the ass if someone is sneaking and you're not looking around enough. I tend to look around all over the place and I'm confident enough in my ability to respond to sound cues to play with 90 FOV. But it's certainly not for everyone. Zooming with LG can help a lot in those long-distance battles. It takes getting used to, however.

Although i can worn you here. As my experience with tankjr model is that the model is bigger yes. but the hitbox doesnt fit the model size and this can cause you to miss judge rail shots and it will look like it goes through the player. But keel is pretty much the same size as the hitbox. But thats just the way i play

Yeah, I used to, but I saw an interesting thread checking hitbox accuracy with regards to character model and saw that keel's model is pretty bad. I'll try to link it if I can find it.

Not necessarily, but it has nothing to do with why I said to hold W. If you don't hold W during that kind of practice you'll get pushed down into the pit or into the tunnel and that kinda ruins the whole thing.

Doesn't matter, really any good player will have a forced enemy model. A better question is what forced enemy model should you use. =P

hi man - thx for the vid - quite helpful... any chance of making a video about horizontal rocket jumping? by that i mean RJing off the walls to get speed.. ive noticed top players use it quite often (especially when they get into trouble or when they are hunting someone) but im such a noob at this... and all the QL vids about movement are either about standard vertical RJing or strafe jumping... thx!

Don't think so. It's so different from what you'd do in a real game it's just gonna make things awkward. You can try if you think it will help.

Me and my friend just started playing quake live and we are training our Lightning gun aim in Campgrounds middle arena since we dont have premium accounts. I'm also using "center" gun position instead of Default and wide beam instead of thin one, I think i get better accuracy like that What do you think about that?

Purely hypothetically, TankJR would let you see opponents around corners sooner. However, I can't stand the horrible spitting noises he makes. For the sake of my sanity, I use Keel.

That doesn't magically make you good at LG. Anything below -10 seems to make things more difficult for me if anything. Going all the way down to -20 hurts my eyes with all the micro-warping opponents. Any TN at all doesn't do much unless you have relatively high ping, since interpolation is a non-issue at that point as you'll be seeing the latest server snapshot close to real time anyway.

Yep. I made this video at an interesting time. Back then basically everyone assumed he was a hacker, and he was being accused as such by some pretty big names. I believe I was one of the few who defended him, as did He4rTL3sS. All three of us were often accused, though of course both of them were accused far more often than me due to how much better their aim was than mine. I was surprised to hear he went pro.

Dodge heavy. As in it's a map where you do a lot of dodging or side-stepping to avoid getting hit by enemy gunfire.

It's because on Eye to Eye and Almost Lost you can dodge around in circles. But if you try that on Thunderstruck you will either fall off the ledge or run into the wall. There is simply not as much room to dodge. And because there is not as much room to dodge on Thunderstruck, people hit much higher accuracies there.

cg_gunz, cg_gunx, cg_guny: all adjust the weapon models position along each respective axis, just play with it till you get a position you like.

Zowie G-TF and G-TF Speed aren't the same. As for my ranking, the Hayate has the problem that it gathers dust between the fibers, so it will gradually lose its incredible glide. The G-TF Speed, while it glides faster than the G-TF, was designed by a complete idiot. It was made thinner than the G-TF and it comes rolled up as tight as they could possibly get it. Mine still doesn't lie completely flat and I've gone to every effort short of ironing it. But they last a lot longer than Artisan pads.

alpacasarebootymasters Really late reply, but no. Bots are an excellent way to practice. If you download a pro gamer's demo pack from Dreamhack or QuakeCon and sift through for instance Spart1e's demos you'll find his warmup games where he goes on Aerowalk, adds bots and tries to flickrail them for a while. You can also watch L1nkin's twitch stream and you'll see before he starts playing he hops on a practice game on ZTN and, again, adds bots and shoots them for a while with various weapons to warm his aim up.
