I have a 10 year old Synology Nas. Cheapest model. It was already annoyingly slow when I bought it. Is this qnap good enough for just video/foto back-upping and running my own VPN?

Suppose you only use the ts-233 for plex and you turn off transcoding, nowadays media players and TVs don’t need transcoding. Then the ts-233 must be perfect for Plex with its low cost/low energy and playing 4K and h265/10bit media shouldn't be a problem, am i right?

Which one is better to buy, the Qnap TS-233 or the Synology 233j? Qnap hardware is better.

I have had a number of NAS, (TS 251, TS453A, DS214, WD Mycloud (Dont laugh ;) ) and this is a great NAS, the Plugable 2.5Gbe adapter works in the USB3 port, the AI cores literally gulp down data in Qumagie. I run Pihole in a Container with no issues, I also run it as a PLEX server with zero issues. Its hitting 55% RAM used. I rate it as the best NAS I have ever owned.

Hi Mick, so you are using USB to 2.5Gb RJ45 adptor? Any configuration you need to add or is just plug and play?

Good info. Do you have a video specific to the TS-433? It has the faster 2.5Gb ethernet and also I got it with 4GB RAM, or it came with it maxed out. I installed the transcode option but I don't use it on the fly, I just try to see if it can make a large file smaller.

Nice video, I appreciate you sharing. I'm wondering if I buy a QNAP 251-D or this TS-233. It seems to me that in the long run the 251-D will prove to be a more solid investment, even if it does not have a neural processor. What do you think? I would make home use only, family photos and videos and a handful of text files (word, pdf, ppt, etc.) Thanks.

QNAP provides a little higher clock speed and takes one USB 3 and transcoding from TS-230, and raises the price? What is happening in 2022/2023?

First of fall thanks for the very informative videos you are making. I just bought the QNAP TS-233 to replace/add to my TS230. The TS 230 as you know very well has a quad core 1.4 and 2Gb ddr4 ram, while the Ts-233 has Quad core 2ghz arm processor with 2Gb ram. Now to my HUGE surprise the 233 was preforming quite badly compare to the TS 230. The TS 233 is running out of memory ALL the time. It screams for more memory. I just use it to preform a automatic backup from another NAS. But i have been forced to change back to The TS 230. Do you have any idea why its is constantly running out of memory? This just seems to not ad as good at all as the TS230. or am i missing something? I am just baffled.

Tbh, I'm a little stumped too. Are they both running QTS 5? Also did you check the resource monitor to see if there are any new processes to the new NAS setup that are going nuts? (Eg indexing taking too, too long?) I know that new system has an improved AI engine that improved the photo recognition Vs the QuMagie performance in the 230. That's all I can think of tbh. Got a 233 here in the studio running for an envy test next week, I'll see if I can think of anything else
@KimEidem2 жыл бұрын
@@nascompares I did not check the indexing but all i had it do was run HBS 3 - i had it loaded with 2 - 8Gb drives. Even for a moment i thought it just had 1Gb of ram since it ran so fast out of memory. And the processor also seemed so slow. I really can't explain it. I was hoping you had some clever answer for this ;)

port for internal files transferring and processing, not for internet access. Faster port, quicker you transfer your files.

I own a ts-230p, and i use it only as a backup, cause i've recently upgraded with a ts-251d, absolutely amazing beast; you can do practically everything with it; i would reccomend you that for 360° work with a powerful nas

very informative, but: my teacher in school told me not to make pro arguments when you take the same argument and turn it into a con argument. You did this 2 times :)
@nascompares2 жыл бұрын
Not to argue with your teacher, but you have to play devil's advocate when balancing decisions. What is good for one user can be a curse for others. Also, some systems can be good value for money, but also very weak in hardware - both points are valid but both points are about the same thing
@da_stempf2 жыл бұрын
@@nascompares makes sense. one question: should I buy the 233 or the 230, because some say the 233 is weaker although it has the "better" CPU? I guess 2 GB are enough for me, I'm a beginner, didn't own any NAS before, but need a good backup system and a way to stream some media.
