the funny thing is, i read all the comments saying "I'm not sure guys.." etc. I remember when the singles for Like Clockwork came out, I wasn't that impressed at first. I was used to Songs for the Deaf and Era and Lullabies. Now I fucking LOVE like clockwork. That's the beauty of queens.. every album is a grower. Every single one. Give it a year of having the album out and you'll all look back on this and laugh at your lack of faith. It's Queens of the Stone Age. They won't ever disappoint.

1) I still don't like Clockwork 2) Even Led Zeppelin and Sabbath disappointed, so I wouldn't be so sure for QOTSA, even if I used to love what they did. Unfortunately.

Got to admit, I didn't know what to think when I saw that Mark Ronson produced this album. First listen through this single was nothing special. Now it keeps getting better. Hints of Them Crooked Vultures, EODM in the mix, and definite echoes of Era Vulgaris' riffed-out weirdness. This is gonna be good. I've never seen a band be able to change their sound so much album to album yet still be unmistakable. Can't wait for this one to drop.

Part of it is the changing cast of the band. Josh Homme is the one constant, and everyone else that cycles through the band brings their own sound.

I bought their first one from my brother for $5. I would describe it in one word: Timeless. My personal favorite QOTSA album, with SFTD and EV close behind. Somehow I ended up with seven Queens discs ! Ive been on a heavy Melvins and Neurosis kick lately, but i spin the Queens discs from time to time. This is not bad, im not complaining.

Loved QOTSA since 2002 - and I love this. It makes me want to dance, or run, or just move - good music does that. It's different from other QOTSA tunes, but that's okay because evolution happens in bands that have been around as long as they are.

Listen to their past catalog for desert, stoner riffs. This is the present. Evolution.
@DarlingPhenylethylamine
@DarlingPhenylethylamine 7 жыл бұрын
Sure, it's the present and it's evolution, that doesn't mean it's automatically good. I appreciate risks and change, but risks are risky and change is change. Anyway, who's to say this ain't devolution? I don't know. What bothers me isn't its poppiness, because I'm a music man, all for a bit of song and dance, but the production isn't doing it for me, the mix is off. The vocals don't sit well in the mix and it just feels like there's something missing. It's not got that zing to it. That zest. But we'll wait and see. I'm optimistic that the record as a whole and the song in context will be sweet as somethin' sweet.
@Papatorrejano
@Papatorrejano 7 жыл бұрын
Have read similar opinions about the production. No low end at all and even no proper use of Mr Theodore's sound. I'm optimistic as well. I just watched Josh talking to Zane Lowe and tells why this is the single, how he met Ronson days before working on the Gaga track he recorded. Judging by the lenght of those other songs on the tracklist which are 4 to 6 minutes is gonna be interesting. Josh doesn't allow himself to not be epic with such track duration..
@DarlingPhenylethylamine
@DarlingPhenylethylamine 7 жыл бұрын
I myself watched that interview, evidently around the time that you did. Enthusiasm is infectious, ain't it? Hearing Josh talk to Zane Lowe about it and explain his reasoning and what the song's about and what it's foundation is - the kind of Big Band thing, lindy hoppin' - I have to say it leaves me feeling more open to it and what's to come. I feel a tenderness to it that I maybe didn't feel at first, but that probably would have come with more spins anyway. I just think it needs to be heard in context. I'm guessing this'll be like I Sat By The Ocean in terms of where it sits in the album and how it plays into the whole thing. Wasn't that track 2? (I should know!) I think it's going to be a beautiful little record, a tight nine. It's nine tracks right? Short but sweet - like Post Pop Depression. I reckon I'll like it even better than PPD and a bit less than ...LC. But hey, I'm not filling my boots with cement. I'll swim with it. Cute little mutant mermaid.

Dante Smith I was only nine years old. I loved QoTSA so much, I had all the merchandise and albums. I'd pray to Josh Homme every night before I go to bed, thanking for the life I've been given. "QotSA is love", I would say, "QotSA is life". My dad hears me and calls me a faggot. I knew he was just jealous for my devotion of Joshua Homme. I called him a cunt. He slaps me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel something touch me. It's Josh. I'm so happy. He whispers in my ear, "This is my Lullaby". He grabs me with his powerful guitar hands, and puts me on my hands and knees. I spread my ass-cheeks for Joshua. He penetrates my butthole. It hurts so much, but I do it for Josh. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Josh. He roars a mighty roar, as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Joshua looks him straight in the eye, and says, "It's all a long slow goodbye ". Josh leaves through my window. QotSA is love. QotSA is life.

Yannis Patras In all honesty tho, it can be very easy to be a critic if you hear it, and don't like it, then you can say you don't like it. Also the song is what it is. Whether to some people that's good or bad, doesn't matter. It simply is what it is.

Yeah, how dare people have an opinion. I mean shit, I am legitimately looking forward to the album and all but "Nobodies from around the world pass judgment to a band that has only offered the best they could for YEARS to no end." First of all, effort alone does not warrant praise. Remember that one album you strongly dislike? Someone worked hard on that. And second, everyone passes judgment. Even people who like it and say "Wow, this album will be amazing". It's just as unqualified and unbased as saying "Wow, this album will be shit". The difference is, one of them conveniently fits your own opinion, so it's alright. What I am saying is this, either quit those double standards when regarding those who (admittedly poorly) express an opinion that you don't like or, even better, just fucking stop caring about what stupid stuff other people do on the internet.

I love this song for it's lack of bite, people say it's poppy but this song has got a tameness that I think fits it and makes it hold up better when relistening. Yeah, it sounds like polka, especially at the end of the vid =)) Feet dont fail me has a very brass sound and here we have one of that oldschool tasty wrapped overdrive quitar sound + very melodic vocal chorus. As for me, if they swap chewed overdrive and brass sound of these two songs, it can even be better. But, nevertheless, I like the song! Who am I, after all, that I do not like?!

Christ, way too many "Ronson turned them pop!" comments here. 1) This aint pop, y'all, and it's really not that far from many of their past singles. I could easily hear this fitting right in on Era Vulgeris. 2) I actually really like the composition. The song *moves*, it progresses and goes somewhere, and I really like the way Mark Ronson mixes in a fat horn section w/ the guitars and synths towards the end. Definite 50's-era rock'n'roll, stab-someone-in-a-teenage-gang-fight vibes. 3) This is a single. Their albums are always weird, with a diverse collection of sounds. It'd make sense that they'd lead with this and not something more challenging, and this doesn't mean there won't be heavier/different songs on the album. If QOTSA had listened to you fanboys crying out for "Songs for the Deaf Pt. 2," they probably wouldn't have lasted this long as a band. Their old albums are still here for your listening pleasure, but unless they keep trying new things, the band probably wouldn't be. Chill the fuck out.

A QotSA album has to be listened to the first time, start to finish to fully appreciate it. Every album tells a story, a theme if you will. The way they tie songs together makes all the difference. Just listening to the single without the surrounding songs doesn't give it the justice or meaning it is suppose to have.

I remember hearing Josh say after Era Vulgaris (I think?) that the album would be a grower. I listened to this first time after hearing the snippet of 'Feet don't fail me' and thought - wait...what is this now? It made me think of Eagles for sure - but then as I listened more through it you can hear that unmistaking QOTSA guitar - shifting through gears in the gorgeous key changes that only they can do. After about the third viewing I was ready to grab my partner and swing her around the room and love her like the way I used to do. This is a grower - this song I mean. Given what I've heard of 'Feet don't fail me' I feel like this album is going to have so much to offer us traditional QOTSA listeners, and for newcomers to the scene. I actually look forward to seeing this live - watching Dean, Josh and Troy all throwing around the guitar riffs and watching the band do their sexy thing. You've got me hooked again Homme - you sexy bastard.

Every blames Mark Ronson for this album sounding the way it does, but they forget that QotSA specifically decided to work with him _because_ they wanted to experiment taking their stuff into a poppier direction. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the production on this album, but I think QotSA is more than allowed to experiment with new sounds. These songs are all still written like QotSA songs, just played through a different filter essentially.
@brianmathews2926

Great comment. I think QOTSA thought they needed a modern producer to remain relevant and garner attention. But their live performances of some of the songs are really redeeming for those who feel Mark Ronson wasn't a good fit or didn't get the best out of these particular tracks. The material itself really does hold up when you look at it outside of production values, and it stays true to the progression or arc of the band over the last few decades, despite being a departure from previous albums in terms of the overall mood.
