I love how all of this is done live. You can see the shenanigans' effects on the sound. At 2:15, Albert knocked over the mic, so he turned around and I tried to grab it, meaning his guitar part was absent during that sequence. Another is at 2:31, Fabrizio pushed both of the microphones recording his drum so his drum sound got significantly reduced. Oh I love all these little things. Really shows that the attitude of the artist and their live playing capabilities. Please give us another album to cherish!

One day as we were trying to sneak into some coffee shops we saw a guy holding a map and talking on the phone who looked just like Albert Hammond Jr. So we were standing there in the middle of a busy shopping street, pointing, wondering if it was really him as we waited for him to hang up. Suddenly someone tapped me on my shoulder and said, "Hey kid, you should get his autograph, it's him". I replied that I thought so too and then a split second later realised it was actually Julian! I didn't have any paper, only those big rizla rolling papers, so he signed that for me. I said great show and he wrote "to Rachel". We laughed about it and then he signed another. Good memories :)

You know what the world could really use right now? A fresh band that brings that same kind of magic The Strokes delivered when they first came onto the scene. We need a band that's unafraid to experiment with sound, and create a unique style that becomes iconic. It wasn't just about the music; it was about their attitude, their authenticity. The only band that has given me the same feeling in recent years has been The Doublejumps, which is a band from my home country New Zealand (I live in Australia now). This HAS to be one of the most entertaining videos i've seen.....singer half drunk bumps into lead player, throws mic down (you hear it pop in da mix), takes another sip of beer, lead player loses footing after his lead and takes out drummers overhead, tries to fix it, then drummer (on the 4 beat rest), whacks them outa the way with his stick!....I laughed a boat load!!!..THIS IS ROCK AND ROLL!!!!.......I watch this almost everyday, to soothe my head....THANK YOU THE STROKES!!! .KILLER SHIT!!!!!

As people have said, this is a live performance and not the same as the one on the album. But what always strikes me is how pitch-perfect it is, except for the minor fuck-ups like the mic stand falling over. The guitars, bass, drums sound exactly the same as the record. I know it's not the most complicated song, but it still blows me away.

Interesting Fact: Brandon Flowers (The Killers) in an interview said that when “Is This It” was released in 2001, they threw away all ideas for their songs except Mr. Brightside. It’s safe to say without The Strokes (and of course the help of The White Stripes and Interpol), there would be no Killers, no Arctic Monkeys, no Franz Ferdinand, no Black Keys and so on. Post-Punk Revival of the 2000’s wouldn’t exist without The Strokes.

The Strokes' early albums are so timeless due to their deceptive simplicity and candor, both in songwriting and production. You have to remember that at the time _Is This It_ came out, Nü Metal was at its absolute peak, with bands like Linkin Park and Papa Roach thriving in all their maximalist, Wagnerian loudness. The Strokes' ability to bring sophisticated harmonic chord patterns, charismatic lyricism and dynamics, and evocative, intimate imagery to their music was nothing short of a *stroke of genius. All of which were done so masterfully with no fluff and no filler; just smart, seemingly insouciant, minimalist guitar pop, appearing out of nowhere. It was such a welcome respite from the compressed, shredded noise that dominated the airwaves and the reason The Strokes' appeal continues to today.
