@@thequarantinecatholic get on the air before you feel ready. You’ll thank me later. I have probably 14,000+ total CW QSOs and I hunted Jim, WB0RLJ tonight and sent him KI7QCR. Fun fact, that’s not my callsign. 😂 An “I don’t care attitude” will take you crazy far in this hobby! Looking forward to our first qso 73 !!!

Forest is right! If you wait to get on the air until you’re ready, you’ll never get on the air. The majority of CW ops are patient and will work with you. Word of advice……don’t answer a CW op at 5wpm if he/she is calling “CQ” at 25+ wpm. Pick someone slower, you’ll get a better reception most times.

Sorry for the bad signal report. Could almost not make you out. Conditions were really bad this morning. I had to work a couple hours just to get an activation in today. I have given you a much better report on the kh1 in the past. So not your fault. Just conditions today.

Dude! I’ll take it. I need every last QSO I could get today to wrap up in the allotted times so it was welcome. :) I more so joke because I am such a KH1 advocate I want all potential buyers to think it’s endless 599 on the whip 😂

I love accurate signal reports. Not many give them anymore. Maybe the old school SOTA guys
@UtahforrestКүн бұрын
@@JayN4GO I’m horrible at it. As a new cw op I am constantly in the field with rigs that don’t have S meters. So signal reports are subjective based on how you sound to me, not based on s meter reading. So even when I do use a rig with an S meter I still share just what I hear. I’ve had piercing loud signals come to me over my FTDX10 that don’t move the S meter. But I can’t say 519 if I had to turn my volume down! I genuinely try to share the signal based on how I hear it. (Which may not be true). But it does fascinate me how RST is used in DXing and contests. I did get an email from a ham that I gave 119 and he said 119 should never be sent as RST and shared like 6 paragraphs why. Haven’t done it since that day.
@JayN4GO7 сағат бұрын
@ hmm I’d like to hear why. lol man these yaesus have stiff needles. Almost useless unless you can run amp2 on all the time. Rst is what you hear so that’s good. Yeah the formality of 5nn in contest is just for speed. Imagine a true rst contest. Haha

I've had terrible luck with my KH-1 key freezing up/sticking shut in the cold. I assumed it was due to the 3d printed plastic constricting in the cold around the posts. Have you experienced this?
