it is basically a harvest festival featuring foods that are in season during late november. it has some connections to the colonial christian development of the US, but i think most people just use it as an excuse to have a massive feast. i don't know if it's all that common for people to reflect on the historical aspect, although children do learn about that in school.

Basically it is a holiday that everyone eats a crap load of food, get drunk and watch football all day. We don't really celebrate it for what it was started for. It's just a reason for us to eat and drink a lot
