Québec City is one of the most fascinating cities I've done an overview on. It's one of the oldest cities on the North American continent, which gives the city a unique charm. I enjoyed making this overview and hopefully my pronunciation of French words is at least passable. Thanks for watching: Québec City Overview | An informative introduction to Québec City, Québec.

I'm 42 years old, live in Switzerland and last week was the first time i ever saw a picture of Quebec. Fell in love with it instantly. Now that i know that that impressive building is a hotel, i have to visit that city at one point in my life. Preferably in the winter.
@noseboop4354
@noseboop4354 6 ай бұрын
If you come in the winter, I highly recommend coming during the Carnaval du Québec (different dates every year, for 2024 it is Jan 25 to Feb 11). There are traditional shows and sports, lots of traditional food, a parade featuring le Bonhomme (the mascot) and much more. Of course, you can still do all these things outside of that time, except it won't be nearly as conveniently grouped in one place.
@yodorob
@yodorob 5 ай бұрын
@@noseboop4354 It's actually Carnaval *de* Québec, as "la [Ville de] Québec" refers to Quebec City while "le Québec" refers to the entire province, including Montreal where I live and where I grew up.

We spent 5 nights in Quebec City at Christmas 2023. Stayed at Chateau Frontenac. It was a very festive atmosphere inside the hotel and in surrounding neighborhoods. Christmas Markets were scattered around the city center. Ice skated outdoors on The Plains of Abraham. Such an easy city to walk around. One day we had a four hour walk. High end clothing stores to art galleries to Simons Department store to unlimited restaurants to souvenir shops to antique shops dot the city. One can take a walking city tour or a tour of Chateau Frontenac itself. Chateau Frontenac was an excellent stay for us. Service from valet, concierge, wait staff. bell hop, to house keeping was a 12 out of ten. People from all over the world come to Quebec City. A very clean and friendly city.

During World War II, the Château Frontenac was the site of two important conferences on military strategy. The first Quebec Conference, in August 1943, was attended by the leaders of the Allied powers, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King. (Stalin was invited but did not attend). “There was major security, on the river, at the Citadelle, and with us. They literally closed … and took over the entire hotel,” says Robert Mercure, current general manager of the Château Frontenac. The main purpose of the conference was to plan the invasion of Normandy. But although this major secret strategy session was held in Quebec, King’s role was mostly ceremonial: Roosevelt and Churchill signed the Quebec Agreement, outlining the terms for the coordinated development of nuclear weapons, without Canada’s input. Quebec city kept for safety The Polish Art Treasures from 1940-1960 ... Quebec city has more than 400 years of history, architecture and culture .. Your video is really superficiel , nothing cultural

Another nice addition to your ongoing Canadian city collection. It is super cool to know we have a major city in North America that looks and feels like a European city with French and English spoken on the streets. My big surprise in this video was learning that the landmark building in the city center was a hotel rather than a major government building! The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is simply one of the best pieces of architecture on the continent. You’re running out of major cities in Canada, so my guess is that Winnipeg, Regina, and possibly Hamilton will be next on your Canadian radar. Best Wishes from David P. In Houston. Now I’m moving on to your Seattle video. I lived there for a couple of summers so this will be a real treat! 😎⭐️🥇🏆🥳🏙

they just invaded and drove out the native tribes. So someone was there first living life, then people with a bigger army invaded and drove them out. We skip over that fact so quickly to look at the architecture of a city that doesn't belong to them
@PatG-xd8qn
@PatG-xd8qn 2 ай бұрын
Which is the same with every single country on this planet. Every single person in every single country lives on a land that was once stolen to another group of people. According to your logic, Japanese architecture doesn't belong to Japan since it was once inhabited by other non-Japanese people called the Ainu people... Also, the history of New-France is a bit different than other European colonies. The French in New France had strong alliances with the Hurons and other tribes in the area since New France was a very small and isolated community. This strong alliance can for example be illustrated by the fact that thousands of Hurons who fled a war with the Iroquois around the Great Lakes (because yes, Native Americans also invaded each others' land ...) found refuge right next to Québec city in a city that was named Wendake (which still exists to this day)

In that case, change most of your cultural symbols and the name of your country, because all of them comes from Québec (or Canada which is the original name of Québec and francophone Ontario).

So I don't understand one thing about quebec peope who are fully french and know only french. They expect the rest of the provinces to know french language. OK I can learn french, but they don't even have bilingual signs and policies only french around the coast of the province. So, shouldn" t they learn English aswell and stop feeling apart from the the rest of the Canadian land?????? Debatable

Why would they? No one expect the rest of Canada to speak French. But if YOU expect them to speak English, well they are right to expect you to speak French in return. Everyone has the rights to have their own culture and expect respect.

According to census figures, about 51% of "Québécois" can speak or at least can hold a conversation in English. Usually in the tourism sector, there's no problem getting served in English. In the meantime, in Ontario, only about 10% of its people can speak in French!
