It's pretty incredible to look back and see how Oakland assembled a team with a bunch of over-the-hill pitchers, transformed them into all-star-level pitchers, and built the best team in baseball for the next 3 seasons. Major credit to Tony La Russa and Dave Duncan.

@joeski7345 жыл бұрын
The worst ever actually. That team had Cal Ripken, Eddie Murray, and Fred Lynn and still went 0-21. They were bad, no question. But 0-21? The chance of a team with a .355 winning percentage (their final mark) losing their first 21 is about 1 out of 10,000. Some of it was just a sad fluke. I know because I watched the whole depressing thing.

In 1988, Dave Stewart earned 21 wins and 12 losses. He started 37 games, completed 14, and pitched 275 innings. That's an incredible amount of pitching (and wins). How did his arm not fall off?

Until about 20 or so years ago, that many innings and complete games were pretty commonplace for most above average to elite pitchers.
