It was awesome to talk to Paul Dennen at the Dune invitational and discover how much thought he put into each game. It was fascinating how he said that Gurney was a marginal player in the first movie and that's why he was a card in Dune imperium, but he was more of a player in the second movie and that's why he was a playable character in uprising. Which makes me think we may get a third iteration for the third movie. Fingers crossed, because this is an awesome serries which I hope returns. Also side note as much as I love Imperium...Uprising is just better in my humble opinion!!!

While I disagree about Uprising (while still loving the game), I share your hope about there being a 3rd movie. I'd love to see Dune Messiah get an actually good representation (unlike the sci-fi channel miniseries).

It's great to hear your thoughts on the games and the insights from Paul Dennen! The connection between the movies and the gameplay really adds depth to the experience. Fingers crossed for a third iteration!

Thank you for all your current focus on Dune Imperium. I am new to the game and this series has been very helpful. Ordered Uprising and Bloodlines. Looking forward to seeing more content in the near future.

I own both and play both. Buuut, if I would recommend one version of the game then i'd say Uprising. It has 6 player mode, a stronger solo and 2 player modes. The spy mechanic and the cards are a better design with more depth. The original is perfect to fall back to when you get tired of all the agressive combat in Uprising, a calmer experience. Ix I feel is only worth to play with the original and is required, while Immortality works well with both but can easily be skipped as well. I can't wait to try Bloodlines with all the different combinations

Thanks for sharing your insights! It’s great to hear that you enjoy both versions of the game. Uprising definitely offers some unique mechanics that can change up the gameplay experience! For me the 2p mode makes a significant difference as well!

I think since Dune was two movies it should be two games. I like to two wins playing each once then winner can choose which game they want to play.

Haha, I love that idea! So, it’s like a Dune showdown? Winner picks the next game? Count me in for some epic battles!

Very fun discussion, I'm in the Uprising team, but I love arguments from both of you!

The deciding factor for me is which one has a picture of Patrick Stewart.

Ah, the true measure of greatness-does it have Sir Patrick Stewart? If not, is it even worth playing?

Love both immensely. Glad they both exist. They both require a slightly different approach. Different puzzle solutions. And I think. They both succeed in being awesome complex and though provoking. BUT! IMO, I feel that the cards, the board spaces and the mechanics ultimately coalesce slightly better in Uprising. More time to incubate. More time to see what players complained about in OG Imperium, and to make subtle changes and add more nuance. Also, for me, I like the lean-in to the combat, though I don’t think it is the only way one can win in Uprising. You can almost as easily sneak up on the sidelines and get a win, focussing on faction influence, intrigue cards, (and tech’s if you add them). It just takes more cunning and attention. The combat also just feels more intense at the end there. The resource scarcity in the beginning feels heavier and the options seem broader and more impactful. And the ending becomes big and scary often unpredictable and threatening. But still requires deep strategy and the ability to think on the fly and adapt. (And we have had plenty of games where the sand worms don’t even feature, they are just a threatening potential in the background. Really keen for bloodlines to add the techs back in (even if they too are more subtle than ix tech’s) and more combat options. But I learnt the game from DI and fell in love with it there and still play it digital. So what more can I say than, in truth, Both have a place. (Edit: And The teach is slightly easier in DI, less mechanics, but there is a purity in the OG version too that feels good. But… just makes sense (too me) that Uprising is the slightly better version.)

You make some excellent points! Both games certainly have their strengths, and it’s fascinating to see how they approach strategy and mechanics differently. Your insights on Uprising really highlight its unique appeal!

I think it's weird making the same game twice with a few tweaks. I didn't get it with Marco Polo and I don't get it now. Either playtest more and put out the best version you can or just make a new game. And I'm not saying it out of sympathy for completionists who will compulsively buy both. I couldn't be less sympathetic towards those people. But there's something to be said about consistency and reliability. Boardgames are meant to last a lifetime, like books. They're not subject to technological advancements. So when you put out a good game you should try and build a brand that inspires trust and respect, not situational cash grabs.

Great question! Yes, many players enjoy incorporating Rise of Ix with Uprising to enhance their strategies and gameplay experience. It adds a nice layer of complexity! It is not needed . . . but it can be mixed :)
