Ok embarrassed to ask because I’m running an ‘85 Stumpjumper with tubed rims. So when you get a front flat, do you need to take the bags off and disconnect the rack from the through axle to fix your flat?

Beautiful! I have the same bike!! 😍 how you mount the front rack to the bike?, not to the wheels of course, but to the frame..?
@TrentSiggard3 ай бұрын
The rack mounts to a special through axle that Old Man Mountain makes! This way you can carry more weight and not worry about putting weight on the screw which is molded into the carbon

Why everyone, that bikepacs always make the most expensive setups. Why not do it on budget. My setup is very simple. On the rear rack I have 80 liter backpack and on my frame I attach two shoulder bags(each around 25 liters). I attach them by putting the shoulder strip around seat post and a special ring I made on my steering tube. They lie next to frame and no, they don't make it hard to peddle for me(btw I'm huge 6'3 or 196 cm) And there are two huge pluses for me, why this is the best. Firstly, they are everyday items, so I can use them each day, not only when I cycle. Secondly, I can easily remove them from my bike and go, for example, to shop. I put my backpack on shoulders, one shoulder bag around shoulder and second shoulder bag also funkcions as duffle bag, so I can cary in my hand.

Why do you choose a front rack +bags over rear rack?
@TrentSiggard11 ай бұрын
Some people prefer more weight on front vs. back. Basically, trying out various setups. Later in the year I put a rear rack on and had both. Depends on the trip+gear needs.
@spork112510 ай бұрын
@@TrentSiggard Awesome, thanks for the reply. I’m just getting into it all and trying to figure out the most preferable setup. Sounds like flexibility is warranted!
@abrakadabra586610 ай бұрын
@@spork1125rider weight is %70 on the rear already. i was using rear rack and i was putting heavy things to the back because of this i replaced my rear hub 2 times in a 3 year. now i am using front rack.

Do u prefer more weight on the front? Steering must be annoying with this setup?
@TrentSiggard8 ай бұрын
Weight dampens steering which is a benefit to me. There isn't too much weight up front either, compared to two full size panniers.

Hey there. Did you fit a 42t cassette directly without the Goatlink? I also have a GRX 2x, switched the original 11-36 cassette for a 11-42, initially with a Goatlink but it was bending the b-screw so I took it off and it works. Any points, advice or thoughts on the system?
@TrentSiggard Жыл бұрын
I’m running a 40. With B limit screw fully extended. I think you need the other GRX derailure to get the 42 tooth on. Thinking about it, myself!!
@pavelg4990 Жыл бұрын
@@TrentSiggard gotcha, thanks. I misheard 40 tooth chainring as 42 :) Yeah, I got the cheaper GRX 400 RD in the back which has a larger capacity, and 46/30 upfront. Way over Shimano specifications, but works fine.

@@TrentSiggard lol. Sorry, this came up on my feed and for some reason I assumed you’re someone with like 1 million followers. I think I should be less abrupt on my KZbin comments. I suppose it shouldn’t even matter how many followers or subscribers somebody has. I suppose I have some reflecting to do lol. I’m new to bikepacking and I noticed there are a few interesting habits that ultralight backpacking has worked through. A good example of this is the overuse of individual stuff sacks and overbuilt, waterproof dry bags with grab handles. As for the tent, Tarptent double rainbow Li is one of my favourites. It’s a big two person under 2lbs with lots of great features.
