Bravo and big Congrats, Aruna! Your work and achievements benefit the table tennis sport. As a Chinese, I am glad to see non-Chinese players winning games against Chinese players, who have dominated this sport for a while. It is not healthy for any sports to be dominated by a country for too long. Just like basketball, as American players no longer dominate the World Cup as Dream team One did, the sport grows even more in recent years. Aruna's work will plant seeds of this sport in the hearts of young generations in Africa and elsewhere in the world.

Aruna has improved a lot, especially in his defense off the table and then counter. Only the first tier Chinese players, Fan, Man, Xu and maybe Wang Chuqin he may still have to overcome.

I always found Aruna's weakness was his lower body. For his size and all his power, his legs were not the strong part of his body and he was often off balance. These days, he is very steady with greatly improved footwork. Huge upgrade. Bravo.

And this is why even though these rising TT youngters can beat ML, FZD and XX in the domestic competition, they are still far from them because they lack the experience to face various playing styles from international players. ML basically never loses to Aruna because he can analyze opponent's strengths and weaknesses, adapt and readjust his strategy when playing. You'll often see ML losing the first set of the game, only to come back and take all.

Arunas forehand is great and his backhand and defense has improved a lot. But Zhou Qihao has defeated Ma Long, Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong in chinese competitions. At those competitions he has shown great register, both a quick backhand and a relaxed but deadly forehand and great defense and movement. In recent time he seems to lack confidense and his backhand counter and forehand loop seems to be nothing to fear for many players on the international top level. But, after all, a great improvement from Aruna.

Ma Long would have somehow found a way to win this even if he’s overpowered. ZQH tried to fight power with power. Ma Long usually try to soften up the shots and change the pace. Anyhow. It’s easy for a spectator to say. Goes back to the point that ZQH is wildly inconsistent and the Chinese coaches may never trust him in big tournaments.
