Good day, thank you for your spirit & your gift to the world. Your helping so many by showing your daily routine. As a former health care worker, having to do this to my client's, it wasn't easy at first. But you get the hang of it after awhile.

You are to be commended for your openness. This will undoubtedly help others. I see males speak on their programmes, but haven’t seen any females. I imagine they have a semi-permanent catheter put in as it would be very difficult to self-cath. Hopefully some females speak on it also, as it’s so helpful not only for those with SC injuries but also for those around them. 👍

Corey! Thanks for another "fun" (okay, educational) video, it's as real as it gets. Since you mentioned towards the end of this video about drinks you avoid, I'd be interested in hearing more about what beverages you don't drink anymore (and why) as well as any foods you avoid for any reason. A video on accessible design elements around the unit/building or how to find accessible housing might be interesting too? Public places you avoid because of inaccessibility? Thanks for reading :) Hope you're enjoying your summer!

Corey O Shout out to your caretaker. Love his laid back Hawiian style. Could really see his personality on the beach wheelchair video. In the background but also present. Like a caretaker and security all in one package.

Great video, T4 complete here. Question, you dont clean or sterilize your johnson before cathing? You only clean your hands? I use iodine pads but still get 8-9 UTI's a year. Getting fed up with these damn infections.
@Bjorn89916 күн бұрын
T4 complete too bro Been for three years I try my best to be as sterile as possible while self cathing

Corey, have you heard of Lofric catheters before? They have a catheter set called Hydro Kit where you can cath directly into a bag instead of using a toilet or urinal.
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have tried Coloplast self-contained catheter with a bag. It's pretty handy, but because of the way I'm sitting and my lack of hand dexterity, it is kind of messy and it's hard for me to avoid backflow and spillage when removing the catheter. Otherwise, those would work really well!

Do you ever have any dental issues for using your teeth to open or hold objects?
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
So far, 12 years later, no dental issues as of yet! Thanks for watching!

Corey, what is your night routine like? Do you have to wake up every 3 to 4 hours in order to cath, or do you use a Foley? Edited: also, if you use a condom catheter, isn't it sort of unsafe considering your bladder will not fully empty overnight?

Por qué no usas un catéter permanente para un nuevo video

Do you take any anticholinergics? Or pills to make your bladder stop spasming? Also, what is your average cathing volume? And what happens when you have to cath and you’re out and about?
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
I take 10mg oxybutynin daily to prevent bladder spasms. And that depends daily, But I usually go when I wake up, around lunch, mid day and then right before bed. I have catheters in my van so they are always with me!
@officiallyamber94032 жыл бұрын
I’m curious. What happens if you don’t use the catheter? Will your body just automatically release the urine? When it gets too full ?
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
Good question! For me my face starts to get flushed, my blood pressure rises and my whole body becomes a little tense. The symptoms worsen if I do not empty my bladder. If it gets to a certain point it can just released on its own and that is never fun. The symptoms are known as autonomic dysreflexia, which is kind of the body’s way of letting you know something is up.

I think the toilet issues would be as bad as being paralyzed

Man thanks for sharing do you have your meals cook for or do you cook for yourself as well.
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! I sometimes have things cut for me, like fruit or something I may make later by my caregiver in the mornings, but for the most part I can cook for myself. That is actually going to be the next series of videos!

Wow thanks for showing all you need to do, but I have a question. Do you go out to places or only stay home?
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
I can’t stay home for more than a day or so lol. Gotta get out!
@frankierepalda2 жыл бұрын
Do you get a chance to empty it out at night too?
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
I actually have a urinal by my chair and just cath into that. Empty it in the AM. Too much work to transfer and roll all the way to the bathroom at night.

Do you get the urge/feeling that you need to pee or do you have a complete injury?
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
Yes. Or sometimes I’ll feel my bladder contract and get some minor symptoms of autonomic dysreflexlia.

Thank u so much for share, sorry for this but i have a question, my boyfriend, who also has a spinal cord injury (T5-T6), identifies that he is going to urinate because his penis retracts, we have looked for information about it but we did not find, do you know if it is normal for this to happen after the spinal cord injury, and when he finishes urinating his penis returns to the normal size. We only found something like a buried penis but that is permanent and it is not the case of my boyfriend, that is why we want to know the opinion of other people with spinal cord injury and if it also happens to them.
@coreyaustin142 жыл бұрын
Short answer, yes it happens. I have no idea the mechanism behind it, but it does make it really hard to catheterize sometimes. I usually try not to wait until it gets that point and try to just catheterize certain parts of the day. Hope this helps!
@julianalinaresgaravito91162 жыл бұрын
@@coreyaustin14 Thank you very much for your answer, it is even something that makes it difficult for him to use a condom catheter, and the doctor recommended not performing catheterizations a month ago, so the only solution has been to use a diaper because the condom catheter does not work for the same reason. But it reassures us to know that it doesn't just happen to him, just one last question, does it happen to you that it doesn't go back to normal until you finish to pee?
