You said how will you see this film when you are older..... I watched this film in my twentys I'm now 40 odd and it's up there as the best movie I've had the pleasure of watching. Its timeless I believe every generation that comes along will find a relatable feeling. Culture changes people don't. Amazing film. 👌

You really nailed this one dude. To me, the most important line in the film is when he's talking to his "rocker" friend and he says (this is probably not verbatim) - "I don't want to be like everyone else, that's why I'm a mod." His big lesson in the film is that by being a mod, he literally IS being like everyone else. Hope you listen to the album soon...I was a big fan of it in high school long before I got around to seeing the film. I grew up in a small town with no culture, and while I couldn't relate to the setting of Quadrophenia (scooters, a youth fashion movement, etc.) the story and struggles of youth is completely universal throughout history, and that album (and this film) gets it perfect. Glad you enjoyed it.

Great impassioned speech about one of my favourite movies. Only thing I would say is watch the bathroom scene again it’s completely different to your understanding. Basically his bosses are more concerned about being successful than people. The last line you don’t think all this talk of lung cancer will change things. I don’t think so young people don’t worry about that sort of thing then it cuts to Jimmy putting a cigarette in his mouth even though he is coughing and spluttering.

First time watching one of eeries vids...Kudos to you...good review especially from someone that wasn't brought up in UK culture...Thank you...Quadrophenia inspired a generation...Scooters were cheap used bikes when this came out in '79 which made it easier to get one during this first 'mod' revival...To put in context the film came out just toward the end of the punk culture and during a major skinhead movement and beginning of the new romantic era in the UK for teens....It was a time when you had to be one of the above or not exist to anyone as a teen...First time you could see a film on a video player instead of the cinema...70's kids had been let loose on the public with no supervision...So teens in the 80's were very free in the UK...17 years old, I saw the Quad video, I got a scoot and a US parka and I left home...I was gone!

Good, impassioned and insightful review. Interesting from an outsider to the culture, some 4 decades after the film was made.

At first i thought ok what this young punk that don't know shit about nothin' got to say about... but- man you NAILED it. Personally, I "saw" Quadrophenia in 1973 on the day it showed up in the record store. The movie i saw was in those grooves and in those songs. The movie I saw had me as the main character. It was the exact same movie you just saw only deeper. You don't experience what happens to Jimmy on the record- you ARE Jimmy and those things happen to you... You fall in love with youth culture, with your girlfriend, your favorite band, with being a part of a scene and then EVERYTHING lets you down. And what are you left with? What do you do? You grow up, you look inward instead of outside yourself. That's why those last minutes of the movie you talked about work so well- it takes time to mature. Get a vinyl copy of the 1973 pressing (it HAS to be that specifically), a set of good head phones and a couple of days to listen from start to finish. Thanks again for your review- it was amazing!

In a roundabout way, Keith Moon is singing Stings part in the movie.

Wouldn`t say the houses were shabby it was the style of the 60s , hoow does sting "nail it " when he has literally no dialog , you mean the stylist or ahtever nails it or the guy who customised the vespa nails it

Having lived those days, I can tell you Q the album is better than the movie. The movie has serious narrative/motive problems, but some of the greatest scenes you'll ever see.

It's just same rehashed shite. I went to movies 3 times a week for over 10 years. Now I'm bored with today's crap. I stick to old TCM now.
