I just turned fifty, but I have been a WHO fan since I could barely walk. Particularly Keith Moon, as it was he and John Bonham who inspired me to become the drummer that I am. Can anyone actually fathom what faculties and imagination are involved with writing something on the scale of Quadrophenia? And then playing it? Then touring with it? It is beyond almost everyone I can think of. There are a few like Pink Floyd with their brilliant, concept oriented offerings and maybe Zeppelin just because they ARE ZEPPELIN. Maybe the Beatles. I listen to these albums from these people and I am still awed after all these years. Makes me wonder if albums like Quadrophenia, Dark Side Of the Moon and Zep II and IV and Sgt. Pepper's will triumph throughout the decades and centuries along with the Classical Giants, assuming humanity survives.

Quadrophenia was released a few weeks after I first met the woman who would become my wife. The album, and especially this magnificent song, was an important element of our soundtrack during those early, wildly passionate weeks of our lifelong love affair. When she passed away earlier this year we'd been married 47 years. Thanks for helping make the memories, Pete.

Quadrophenia is not only my favorite Who album, but it is probably my favorite album to listen to of all time. I will admit I did not like it when I first heard it, but grows on you quickly and you can feel the emotions of the songs as the groups interprets the mod lifestyle of Jimmy Cooper. The Rock happens to be my favorite track on it, but Love Reign O'er Me is a heck of a song to end this album. Long live the Who! RIP Moonie and The Ox

Iv'e been playing my piano for hours. struggling enjoying a piece of music I'm writing. 2 break up the stress and irritation I've ate and played rock and pop from my youth. what I'd consider easy elementary chord sequences. Interestingly I've also had some difficulties getting songs like Michael Jackson 'one day in your life' together still great fun and a lesson in humility. So I decided to turn the piano off & listen to The Who a band I listened to most nights whilst pissing about pretending to do my home work. Quadrophenia ws my favourite L/P from 3rd year (15yo) 2 end of school. As soon as I heard the piano at the start of this track I heard the influence of the who in my own writing. Ace! back to the L/P. Note The fantasy's i'd have staring at the cover or listening 2 the songs were so passionate & now seem so ridiculous. As a teen I thought you wait until I'm a man. Never once thought as a man I'd still have to contend with men & their love of power & prejudice. Now that sounds ridiculous 2. DR JIMMY& MR JIM!!!!

I swear this is a true story. I saw The Who in Tampa Stadium years back. They used this song to totally change the vibe of the show. When the backing track of a rain storm began (honestly this is the truth) there was a slight sputtering of rain that lasted through the first verse then it stopped and never rained again through out the show. At first I thought someone had a squirt gun and was shooting water but I looked around and everyone around us was sensing the same thing. Awesome!

I discovered earlier today that if you listen to this with a really good pair of headphones, you get the most amazing experience:the power of this music completely envelopes you. You hear, feel, all of it. The bass shakes you to the very core, the stereo blows you away, the strings power through all, and the true power of this work shines through. A good pair of headphones can make it inescapable, and all the better for it.

This song sums it up. It sums up the human condition. It speaks for all the poets and preachers. It reaches down into the aching heart of a man and holds it up high to God and begs for the rain of mercy to wash away the pain of man's corruption and brokenness. At the end there is only one hope. The Reign of a God who loves., Who reaches out and draws us up to Himself, giving us the life giving water of his cool cool rain.
