Have it pre-ordered and can't wait for it to ship! My wife and I love Five Tribes from last year and this seems right up our alley again. Thanks Rahdo for helping confirm that.

I don't have this game yet, but I am thinking about getting it. I noticed you said it was in the early running for the top ten games of 2016, but at the end of the year, it did not actually make your list. Has your opinion of the game changed after playing it more? I was wondering if the gameplay is a little closer to random than tactical. I remember in your review of Splendor, you mentioned that that cards bought and revealed can introduce some luck, especially late in the game , that could help or hurt you. But it isn't necessarily a result of a meaningful choice on the part of your opponent. Anyway, after playing it more, would you apply that same criticism to Quadropolis? Or after several plays, does this game just not stand out from the pack of quick and thinky games?

iirc i think this ended up being #12 on the yearly list. this one definitely doesn't suffer from "swingy random card/tile draws" anywhere near as much as splendor :)

Was able to get this in a trade and I'm pretty happy(traded New York 1901 for it) with the game. It is a tad too expensive, compared to other games with similar mechanics, theme, etc. so paying what DoW/FFG want to charge now( the game last year would've cost $34.99 and now retails for around 42.99) cause of their new BS business model that helps no one(except Asmodee of course) Great play through and final thoughts as usual Richard, I agree the game is indeed great and fits a spot in almost anyone's collection, but I still enjoy Five Tribes more ;)

I feel like the precedent for this and Five Tribes is Colosseum and (maybe) Shadows over Camelot. Those were both a bit more involved (I feel like Colosseum actually had a lot of planning in it) Days of Wonders games. Of course, they are both pretty old, and neither works well with 2, so it's understandable that those don't pop to your mind!

Got the game yesterday and it has replaced suburbia for me also! in fact I have put it up for sale on ebay! Excellent excellent game.

Played this at Origins 2016 and loved it. I agree with the notion that it could definitely surpass Suburbia in the city building genre. I'm not sure I will get rid of Suburbia myself if I do end up with Quadropolis but it is definitely worthy of the replacement. It is the kind of game you realize you could do better and better each time you play it. Which I consider a sign of good longevity.

Richard, we played it yesterday and I like it very much. But compared to Suburbia it is less deep, especially when you take the expansions of Suburbia into play... Nevertheless a fantastic game which I like but consider too expensive...over 40 Euros in germany is just too much for this game...

So how has this held up over the years? Did it survive the great trek over the ocean and country? Did this replace Suburbia? I watched this because I hadn't played in a while and I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it through my own next move. For my money, Suburbia is a better game, but this is more accessible when gaming with casuals, and your review / walk through reminded me just how accessible it really is.

yup, i'd still rank suburbia & and subdivision over this, but if i were to say to jen right now "hey, let's a play a city builder", this is the one we'd go for most likley because it's just so easy to jump into. suffice to say, we've still got our copy :)

Richard, the Expert variant doesn't last 25 turns, it lasts 20 turns. Yes, you have one round more, which makes it 5, but each round still consists of 4 turns (some unused architects will remain at the end of the round). This makes the Expert game only slightly longer compared to Classic (20 vs 16), not nearly twice as much.

+Paulo Renato Don't take this the wrong way, but if you (apparently) are so commited to pinpoiting where Richard misspoke, then it's probably your job to do it, right? I'm here just to comment, not to organize. It's a 6min vid, and it would certainly take shorter than the 2h of waiting for me to maybe watch the video again (for you) and figure out the timestamp, because a random person on the internet said "timestamp please". And so with all that being said, 3:35.

For me it was like "sounds interesting" when i first heard about it. But then it is just a mix of B2C city building and the market from Dilluvia Project (but there may be other games before with that mechanism). After seeing the first videos my opinion switched from "sounds intersting" to "i would play it when it comes to the table, but no hurry". I don't know, but the enthusiasm switched to disenchantment for me.

A head to head comparison with Suburbia would have been cool. Suburbia just seems to be a tad more thematic from a mechanics standpoint. Quadropolis is a little too Euro-y for my tastes.

I've played this and I think Quadropolis and Suburbia are different games. I find Suburbia has more of a city building feel and Quadropolis is more of a puzzle/brain-burning game. Definitely, you can have both games and they satisfy a different itch for me,

I'm a little concerned about how it'll play with 4 players. Sure, you get more tiles out, but I can imagine that you are always scratching about to make a strategy as all the tiles that you need get hovered up by preceding players. Particularly an issue for the player who goes last in the first round as everyone else gets to put a stake in the ground for the their strategy.
@rahdo
@rahdo 8 жыл бұрын
+mccrispy well, removing half of the tiles at the start in a 2p game is kind of comparable to having a bunch of tiles snagged by other players :)

I just fee like the art and design could've been better. Especially for a DOW game. Those player mats in particular, they look like leftover boards from cutout game pieces that we usually get in board gaming boxes, or like left over board from some stickers that we used up. lol. I thought those could've been designed much better. The game looks clean however, and maybe that's what they were going for. Great game, thanks for the runthrough Rahdo!

i got five tribes back when it came out in 2014. bought it from bruno cathala himself at gencon. i havent played quadropolis but after watching your video i think five tribes is a much better game for a number of reason. quadropolis looks like a great game and i definitely want to play it but my concern is that if u and ur opponents are focusing on different buildings, doesnt it become a little dry? isnt there lack of competition? quadropolis looks cool but its going to have to be nothing less than incredible to beat five tribes :)
@rahdo
@rahdo 8 жыл бұрын
+jpower2010 what makes the game interesting is that while it's easy to get the tile you want, its hard to put is where you need it to go, and the board is constantly tightening up, making that even hard to pull off, due to the actions of your oppoenets

How does Quadropolis compare to 7 Wonders weight wise? 7 Wonders and Stone Age are the two most popular games in my casual gamer group. How well would this fit? I'm thinking very well.

Richard, how about the thin player mats? No criticism there?
@rahdo
@rahdo 8 жыл бұрын
+smoothcriminal28 thin player mats never bother me... in fact, i usually like them because they tend not to warp or slide around on our glass table, unlike full cardboard player boards
@Spelpojken

@Husten76

Yeah, the thin player boards are better here. Same thing as in Burgundy. With thicker boards the will get pushed around on the table I think and everything will get messed up... aargh

A lil too simplish for my taste and not very much variability (you will basically always play the same game). For me five tribes was waaaaay better but quadro is a fun easy to teach and play. Too bad there is practically no interaction even in expert mode
@mod_xxii9333
@mod_xxii9333 8 жыл бұрын
+frogman44300 if someone grabs the tile you need you have to change your move in that specific turn. And that means you maybe have to change your starting strategy. To me this means interaction and it gives variability to the game.
