Yes, as explained, in the early days of using this new equipment (including this video) we have had some teething issues - it only happens you'll notice when there are two people on screen. Unfortunately there's only so much checking you can do 'on the scene'. I could go back to using the previous setup but viewers will also complain then about the lack of 4K, so it's a case of working out what is the best solution we can make work.

The Quaife guy talking about an upgrade, but actually an ATB is a downgrade from a plate style diff. An ATB always needs “some” traction to work, a plate style locks when you lift a wheel or go over a curb..
@jamesbird51758 ай бұрын
But how often do you really get a wheel in the air? I think that’s a pretty insignificant disadvantage, certainly in comparison with the disadvantage of clutch type diffs which is that they wear out and deteriorate in performance. Tim has literally experienced this exact issue here.

@jamesbird51758 ай бұрын
@@balleke I don’t really find that at all on country roads. I can imagine it happening on track when hitting a kerb, but not sure I would choose a clutch plate LSD just for that benefit. I’ve had a Quaife for over 85k miles and still performing the same.

Good informative video, I have literally just had Quaife install the ATB LSD into my FWD Swift Sport which just had an open differential. This will be my first ATB LSD, other cars I have had have either been open diff, electronic style (that brakes the brakes) or a helical torque reacting type not made by Quaife, the best was the helical type and I am looking forward to getting the car back soon and giving it a good run down a twisty B-Road.
@WHYTEPC8 ай бұрын
in my opinion, the only option for an LSD is one that is clutched, ATBs can still be open if one wheel grips before the other, its very hard for clutched LSDs to unlock... if im paying $$$$ for an LSD i want one that will lock, ATB is just an advanced open diff/lsd hybrid
@WHYTEPC8 ай бұрын
@@AB-80-X imo if im putting a diff on a car i want to be fully locking, just my preference, ATBs seem like they are a middle ground between an open diff and a full locking LSD, i wouldnt find that very confidence inspiring if i am trying to go sideways consistently

Very practical steps toward having a very reliable and fun quality car starting with a depreciated purcase price. Many enthusiasts will be reassured if they see you can buy a cool car that as been well maintained and looks excellent while wagering that the monthly repairs will not be as much as the new car monthly payments and interest. In fact a special car may slightly appreciate in time when well maintained.

Love the car, but I am wondering why you went the quaife route, because if that’s a torsen diff when one wheel is in the air it still works as an open diff, so I won’t really call it an upgrade And that a plated diff is always 50/50 depends on what the diff is setup as, for example a OS Giken is a plated diff but can go from 0% to 100% Other than that, love the 1M content!
@jamesbird51758 ай бұрын
But how often do you actually get your rear wheels in the air? And when it happens, how long is it in the air for? It seems like a very minor disadvantage. Compare that with the fact that clutch-type diffs wear out, so after a certain amount of use performance will deteriorate, until it wears out completely (like Tim’s did). That’s a pretty major disadvantage in my opinion. I would say it’s definitely an upgrade unless you are kerb hopping or hill climbing and need to shave time off your laps. For road cars and occasionally track use, a Quaife atb is a much better long-term investment.
