I'm a concept artist and I'd respond in a similar manner if someone would ask me to make something that looks like shit, because I don't want my name on literal shit. Also this is at least partially scripted, it's obvious that the whole point is that Jeremy is taking the shit out of her by asking her to design something yet he's the one actually doing the designing, it's hilarious, but it's still a TV show.

I know she's hamming it up for the camera, but I absolutely loathe artists who decry anyone else's vision as "not art" if it fails to conform with their own vision. How is her post modern, ultra swank Vodka bar vision any more artistic than his? Because hers is cool and hip and modern and his is quaint and stately? Bet she spent a good deal of her education studying the very art that inspired his vision, only to get a superiority complex once she was successful enough to have her own design firm and a few glowing reviews in trade magazines only herself and her other post modern "artists" read.

Typical artist. "I just want to create what I think is cool. I don't really care for your tastes, I know better."
@wkvalader9 жыл бұрын
Dan Rand That doesn't hold up under scrutiny. What job can you show up to work and disregard your boss (whoever signs the payment slips) and just do things however you deem good? The problem is not that there are good artists doing work that they don't think is all that good, who cares? The problem is that artists think they are entitled to their personal design desires when dealing with other people's money on other jobs they were hired to do. If you are doing it for free, go nuts, you get what you pay for. But if someone paid for you to do it for them, and you agreed, then you are on the line to respect the arrangement and adopt a professional attitude, leaving your personal feelings behind as you work with your patron. That is the exact attitude that I was explaining. No other job do people express that kind of attitude and expect to get away with it.
@wkvalader9 жыл бұрын
Dan Rand Touche. I respect your reasoning and conclusion.
@Devilsnightforlife9 жыл бұрын
wkvalader Yeah pretty much.. They needed to realize and recognize what the customer (that is Clarkson) wanted. If the solution could be improved in ways that the customer knew nothing about I can see why they would push on with their own assessment. But this is little more than a simple matter of realizing Clarksons bizarre vision, and not for her to jerk off with her own ideas. Not some financial solution that needed tweaking, but simply a realization of an already absurd idea. I want something crazy, so design crazy. I could understand, however, how they might get embarassed/exasperated about having been the consultor/designer for a design they considered absolutely rubbish. Fair enough attitude. But just move on already instead of going in circles about it..
@michaeldouglas22439 жыл бұрын
wkvalader Couldn't agree more. They should bear in mind that their customer is always right in terms of opinion. The customers want what they want. They pay for shit, they get shit. The only time where they should step in is when customers ask for ideas.

fix the seats in place(allowing for seatbelts and some degree of protection, and like reposition one of the wingback chair's arms to fit on the door, keep the cement at a minimum possibly make a custom padded rear seat that takes advantage of the corner, and like has a bookshelf in the back (possibly removing the rear left window) have a metal grate or something over the bookshelf, either hinged or sliding as to keep the books from falling out. Though I would have gone for a hardwood floor with a rug (held in place by neodymium magnets or velcro or whatever)... I'd also go with a car a bit wider/longer... think a station wagon or a minivan or something.. seatbelts are the only major issue I can see. oh yes as a last thing... I'd unify the exhaust... that is, I'd have the chimney be the exhaust.. In a super-ideal environment, I'd have the car diesel steam-powered, and the fireplace be the boiler.

Sure, Jeremy's ideas are bonkers as usual and does not work. But she should come up with something that goes into the direction of what Jeremy wants whilst still making it practical. But no. She goes futuristic green peace modern with everything in he own style (and frankly it looks hideous as well imho).
