I know you may be wondering why we would start a new cabin project when we haven't finished out other off- grid cabin project....
An A-frame cabin is something we have been excited about for a long time!
Slowly but surely we are looking to turn to off-the-grid solutions for power and waste. We would like to grow as composters and gardeners. For now though, our focus is still on the cabin building process. Thank you for joining us.
I camp and hike in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I'm also building and enjoying an off- grid cabin in the woods with my partner Cory and the kiddos Nora and Ethan! I love sharing the journey with you!
Thank you for supporting our channel :) :)

My wife and I have had your videos on the backburner for a while now, we subscribe to a lot of off grid cabin builders. We are currently binge watching all your videos the last two weeks. To be honest, you are now our favourite cabin building channel (sorry, not sorry, to the other channels!). You have nailed a well rounded content and love the joy you both bring. Look forward to continue with your journey. Lucas and Cheryl from Australia. (P.S Wish I could have one of those sausages you often eat).

How wonderful and surprising! The only suggestion I have is to inset a small window on hinges that can be opened in the door. That, with the window on the back would create a crossflow for the heat buildup inside even with the door closed. This is going to be so cute!

I say go for it! Why not! Something different to do and you both seem to enjoy what you’re doing together! It should be fantastic!😊

Can't wait to watch this in full! Had connection issues earlier. We have built two very A-Frames recently. We LOVE how they look! Go check them out! 😁✌️🇨🇦

Your cabin is coming along very well! A suggestion for you, though, is to raise your chimney above your roof line before the heating season begins. Otherwise you may experience some real trouble.

I think the front deck should be 4 feet min. Wide enough for 2 chairs for coffee.

Hi just a suggestion, i think you should change those sliding doors to one proper door and you could have glass in the door. Proper insulated door. All your heat is going out those sliding doors not good enough for your winters.

Looks great but I’d consider as a builder support on the outside, your beams are quiet far in, from where the walls will sit, looks nice guys

Thanks! We want this project to be easily movable, but you’re right, more support will be needed.

Did you/will you anchor it to the ground? Just wondering. I'm not an expert or anything but I would be concerned about high winds moving it around. Maybe not toppling it, but pushing it off the footings or something. Fun project!

Amazing. You guys work so well together. Did you do any work like this when you were in the Peace Corp?

Thank you! I didn’t do work like this in the Peace Corps, I was really just teaching and being part of clubs.

Ok, you crazy kids! Why start another project when you have so much to finish on the cabin? Put your resources into one thing before starting something else - especially with winter right around the corner! 🤪

Just can’t help ourselves 😂. They are in two locations. For two different purposes. We can work on this one far more often. So we went for it.

Why aren't you going to finish the other cabin first ? I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished

The other cabin is far from where we live. So we don’t get to work on it during the week. This A-frame is near home. So we have a cabin to work on during the week now. Weekends will still be spent at the big cabin. We will just have one for week nights and one for weekends. 😊

Someone on another channel went for the clear panels to bring in light but they didn’t work because they are so light and flimsy. Just saying.

Is the A-frame close to your cabin.
@jodimiddendorf

No. This is closer to our house. The cabin is kind of far away. The A frame is a project we can work on during the week if we want. The main cabin is a weekend project!

Do you ever worry about someone making themselves at home in your cabin while you are gone?
@jodimiddendorf
@jodimiddendorf 6 ай бұрын
It is unlikely where we live. But it could happen! We don't really worry about it though. If someone was in our cabin and needed a place to crash, we would probably just try to help them find them a different safe place to go.
A-Frame cabin is ready for the wedding day!
