Thanks for the tips... I never played a lot of Quake growing up. I played some, but I was primarily a DOOM player. Then coming from DOOM 2016 to Quake Champions, the speed was even faster and the movement tech even more complex. I just joined Champions about a month ago, and I thought I was doing really well. Then I started watching the Pro's... and man was I wrong. I am so far off the Meta board for movement mechanics its not even funny. So this was very helpful. Thanks.

I was wondering why I couldnt make the Lockbox jump or why other players always seemed to go faster than I did. So I read up on strafe jumping and practised maybe an hour yesterday. Eventually I noticed that I get more speed if I dont hold the jump button. Tapping and releasing it as fast as possible was a significant difference. So I must un-learn that now and I guess that most people that have trouble are doing the same.

Quake III Arena was the best. The Viking, Ssssup Now, Don Shula the clan FPAB. These were some of the greats. This is 20 plus year old gameplay. Brings back memories. You need to be able to circle an object and keep the reticle on it. I dont know about console commands, but they were crucial to a good config back in the day. Especially _pmove. Just play, that is all you have to do to improve. 5 nightmare bots on the space map used to be the warmup back in the day. Keep Quake alive!

Was watching when he talked about strafing and thought it might be confusing - its all about vectorial speed sum. If you looking left, and running right (w+a keys) your vectorial speed will increase a.k.a the direction where you going. Absolutely same with sailing boats. Also there is tricks which i cant explain - if you draw smile face with your cursor you accelerate more.

i can strafe but somehow i just cant do those bridge jumps to rail etc lockbox is easy but those wider gaps idk... for me its impossible to get 500 speed after the second jump
@SleepyRickyC926 жыл бұрын
Same here. I find it very hard to increase the speed to near 600 ups after the second jump. I also have a harder time circle jumping to the right, so that doesn't help. I did notice Rapha landed on the edge of the bridge at near 490 ups and just about go to 600 ups when he landed at the rail ledge. My biggest wonder is how Rapha got to 600 from 500 ups during the duration of his second jump. Mouse movement wise there doesn't seem to be big movements. Edit: managed to do the jump with about 560 ups on landing as ranger. The trick seems to be trajectory and being right at the edge of the ledge as you jump. I noted that you want the strafe jump to have almost a straight trajectory. If the trajectory is too curved you’ll be a bit too far left to the ledge.

@SleepyRickyC924 жыл бұрын
Experiment with how far you are looking to the side. Also start moving for a little just before you jump. That extra split second of ground movement gets you quite a bit of UPS before your jump. It's also a key idea to the technique called "circle jump", which is essentially strafe jumping with a running start.
@thewilbatron6 жыл бұрын
Another easy way to make bridge to rail is to just slide on the bridge and slingshot the gap as Slash. I can't make bridge to rail without Slash's slide yet
@SleepyRickyC925 жыл бұрын
It’s tricky, and I only got it recently with ranger and later slash. Ironically despite his slower speed I found it easier to do the jump with ranger. A few points I noted is that I did it with less than 600 ups (I think I landed with near 550 to 560 ups). The jump is more about the trajectory and jumping near the very edge rather than the speed.

Get your friends to message you their QC in-game name. Then you use the search bar near the bottom-left of the screen to find the person and select follow. Your friend(s) will see that they are being followed and can choose to block or friend you. Once you have them as a friend you can invite them to a party and then you can queue for the modes you want or play custom games. I think you can also launch a custom lobby then invite a friend.

I grinded my way into getting clutch just to see why he is harder to play. OH boy was i in for a shocker lols. He really is too big and hit the walls constantly due to his speed or even when strafe jumping but the shield is good to have. But yeah walking target for other players to hit with the rail gun. I once got hit by three rail gun shots from three directions at almost the same exact time. Instagibbed me in team death match. But he is tons of fun to play as just too hard to master same as with slash. My god i hate slash with a passion. I see slash on the opposing team i pick clutch and go after her every time that or go after visor. Again i am a new player to quake so i like the game but thanks to Rapha i learned strafe jumping of all champions with keel since he was stupid slow.

@DirtyPoul6 жыл бұрын
GXD He's using a flash drive (like a USB drive or the drive inside your phone, just much bigger and faster) instead of the traditional mechanical hard drives with spinning magnetic discs. This sacrifices space for speed at a higher cost. It might be an old SSD running on the cheap SATA connectors like traditional hard drives, or the faster PCI express lanes that are also used for your graphics card. Or it uses the new and fast NVMe connectors. You can look all this up. If you want your game to load faster, get an SSD. Your budget and your needs determines if it should be a cheaper SATA SSD or a much more expensive NVMe SSD.

I left it in 2003 I think, Q4 was better in some details but the same game idea, QL was free and got to top 100 in my country and that was sort of fine with me after I knew the maps. So I just don't know what I would get out of QC that I haven't done and done. I can totally understand if you're motivated by tournaments/opponents and travel but that's just not available to me or most of us I guess. And if you agree with some of this pretty negative view :P then if you have some things you'd like to see that could change it around.
