It's 2023 and I'm just starting to learn Quake 3 Arena/Live/Champions now with the help of your videos. So NO it's not that "no one gives a crap about your content".

If you open a map in devmap mode from the console "devmap lostworld" you can turn noclip on, command is "noclip" and fly above the map to get a good general idea of the layout. You can also turn up the game speed "default is 320, 640 is nice to fly around with" using the command "g_speed 640" and this will allow you to fly around the map at a much faster pace and memorise the armor / weapon locations much faster than you would walking around at normal pace. After that you can turn noclip off again and practice routes and jumps. After that play against a bot for a while to learn the weak / strong positions on the map and that's all you realy need to do before duel-ing against a real life oponenet. Works for me anyways.

+In Silico Very good points, thanks for the heads-up ;)

Quintin DeGroot Haha, thanks! :D Yes I will continue doing Quake content, my goal is to make 1 Quake Live video for every other video I make. Can't promise that I'll be able to keep that up but I'm trying. At the moment I'm a bit busy because I just got into the beta for the upcoming PoE expansion (which is fantastic btw), but I'm trying to hit my self-set quotas :D (Answering this way because you have replies disabled)

I would have told you what to do, but I subbed about a week ago when I bought Quake Live

Nice video's man. Could u make a video about how to get good at shooting in modes like free for all.
@LephariaGaming10 жыл бұрын
I am thinking about doing a video on accuracy and how to practice it, but I'm having problems finding enough to say, because for the most part accuracy just come naturally with playing the game a lot. And "shooting well" also highly depends on knowing the weapons well and how to use them, which I'm also conceptualising a video for. So yeah I'm on it, glad you like the content so far :)

I didn't learn too much; Good ASMR tho.

@LephariaGaming did you try UT4? it is in pre-alpha.
@LephariaGaming10 жыл бұрын
I haven't yet, but I'm a big UT2004 fan so I'll keep my eyes on it. Can't really promise anything in terms of content on the game, though.
@ctrl2win10 жыл бұрын
LephariaGaming I think the game has some real potential. The whole community is involved and it is going to be free. Just go to the UT forums and download the launcher.

Will do once my internet is stable again (sorry for no new uploads btw), I'm always interested in future UT development. Thanks for the heads-up!

I didn't know you were taking suggestions, could you do a quick video about "Flick Rails" in Quake Live?
@LephariaGaming10 жыл бұрын
I don't like the term "suggestions" or "requests" generally, but yeah I asked on a Vlog that I have a few guides in mind (that will all come out eventually btw) and asked which one I should do first. That said, I'm trying to listen to my (comparatively small) audience where possible. I have a guide on aiming in general in mind, especially Rail Gun aiming, which is a bit dodgy because it's nothing you can really practice precisely, but based on your comment I can think about including a passage on flick rails, I think that's a good way to do it :)
@BeeSawd10 жыл бұрын
LephariaGaming Cool, thank you!
@iacopo862010 жыл бұрын
A big help for the railgun is to play Instagib (I like FFA). It really help you a lot for flick rails.

That's basically what the guide will come down to yes :D

I mean...for noobs to enjoy the game, they need to be kept out of matches with good players, average players...even bad players. They need to play with other noobs. So, it's a total catch-22 sitiuation. People need other beginners, so they can enjoy the game, but beginners keep quitting because it's too hard. The only way is to attract a whole bunch of new beginners at the same time...which happened with the Steam release, but now, any of those players would destroy anybody playing for the first time. And now the tiers are gone, even more noobs have quit playing because of the feeding frenzy that ensued when the big fish got in with the little fish

+Ash Scott That's actually a problem with many competitive games these days. I'm guilty of that as well, I left SC2 back in the day because it was too time consuming to develop good mechanics in that game. I haven't played Dota in a while and am sinking tons of time into Heroes of the Storm atm. I think when it comes to Quake game modes like Instagib and CA are still casual enough for noobs to enjoy, but it's hard to get people into CTF or Duels for sure. Two things you really need in a game like this are proper matchmaking and a big enough player base, and as it stands QL doesn't seem to have either. Don't get me wrong I love the game and will defend it to the death, but I understand why other games are more popular.

LephariaGaming Or maybe attitudes will change and kids will stop looking for easy games they can win at on their first day. I saw a while back, at some tournament or other, they had a side-tournament that was pro gamers from other games playing Quake live. Maybe that's the way to attract new players: Show them their hero's from CS:go getting noobed at QL at the big CS event. Maybe some will take it up once they see how high the skill level goes and play it just for bragging rights. Or maybe one of the players will win the lottery and put the money into some creative way to get people playing...otherwise...all I see for the future is the lower skilled players leaving, then the people above them realising THEY are now the lowest skilled players, and leaving, and so-on. I've noticed in CA, since the steam exclusive, that all the lower skilled players have started to disappear. I joined a server with one noob on it, trying to figure out how to use the small jump-pad on overkill to do a fly-by and hit people on top. While I was showing him how to do it, he told me he's been playing for a week...then some more people joined and a game broke out.One of those people was K1llsen, and at least 2 of the others I'd estimate at maybe 2300 Elo. That's not the kind of company a kid who is trying to learn the game should be keeping. They'll never take the time to teach him anything other than how to catch rockets. And why should they spend their time passing on what they know. They join the server to play, not teach. I've only seen Strenx out of the top players, making tutorial videos in his own time, and haven't seen any top players doing it with CA. Most of the players are so impatient. If someone asks how to do something, they act like it should be obvious, as if they, themselves, figured it out in a few seconds. I guess it's like walking: It feels so natural when you do it, that you forget that it took you a few years to learn it. Maybe a noob game-mode would help...where you can't manipulate the game physics by strafe jumping or circle jumping or rocket jumping or plasma climbing or any such thing. A mode with no pickups to time, but without the long wait once you die like in CA or FT. Or maybe, the game should be offline for several "levels" just like in old games. Maybe new players should play diffferent levels against bots of increasing difficulty, with an end-of-level bad-guy or something, before they earn the right to join a live server. I dunno...someone should do SOMETHING. I see there's a new skill rating system in development, but it's currently got data for about 2000 players, and almost all the data comes from CTF games. Now the servers are in people s homes, there's no way to guarantee the statistics reported. It would be all too easy to abuse, I guess, so I don't hold out much hope for that. The best hope is that the community sort it out among themselves, which is what I see happening now. There are servers that encourage anybody kicking too much ass to use a handicap or be kicked. It's hardly perfect. Some maps I feel at home in and others I can't get my head around, so you're always having to adjust the handicap and never sure what's an acceptable amount. It's gonna take time for people to find servers they feel at home on. They really shot themselves in the foot by not making sure everyone was informed of the switchover and providing some way to port their friends list over. Most of the players weren't even aware that there was a forum, plus the date wasn't known to anyone for sure until a few days before. Ah, well...Maybe Quake 5 will stay true to fast PC gaming and not try to be a console game for people who play lying down, with those ridiculous game controllers. That's the real reason fast FPS games died out: Because you can't release a game like Quake on the Xbox because you can't play it on a controller and console gamers want to play slouched on the sofa.

Holy wall of text! But I agree with you. I feel like good matchmaking could really make up for a lot of your complaints. You see it in all the popular competitive games, you need a big button that you can press that immediately connects you to a game of equal skill level, then it doesn't really matter how high the skill cap is when the other players are just as awful. The tournament idea is actually fantastic, maybe we need an EVO for FPS games, since most of them aren't that popular (CoD doesn't count). That could lead to some fruitful cross-pollination among players. And maybe Overwatch will get more people into FPS, as Hearthstone has gotten more people into CCGs. Or it'll be the final nail in the coffin, we'll see.

LephariaGaming Shit, yeah...sorry. Was typing what I thought, as I thought it. Never even read it, so I probably went around in circles. It was dawn and I hadn't slept. The guy who arranged that mini QL tournament among pro gamers from other games is planning to sdo it again. I can't remember where I saw the link to the article and videos, though. If they did something like that at a CS:GO tournament, it would not only draw attention to QL, but it would give eliminated players/teams something to do, and another shot at a prize

Kids just want to plod around, pretending to be marines. Plus, when something with fancier GFX comes out, thes epoor kids buy into it, regardless of the gameplay. Besides...what's going to happen to some kid who starts playing QL today? Doesn't matter how much experience he has in other games, or how much natural talent he has for gaming, he's still going to get smacked down very hard and constantly...which is kind of off-putting.
