I honestly think this. As a doom eternal slayer v slayer intermediate, the thing that mostly draws back players is the relative low ttk that pros and intermediate have and the pace of the game. Quake and arenas wouldn't be this dead if they had a newbie friendly mode with higher ttk, or rather, they would be slower in terms of movement, and slowly help you push forward to the competitive game.

Also one thing about aim in Quake is that targets are moving, and moving pretty fast and rather unpredictable. Relative movement and pre-aim is helping a lot, because it's easier see where target will be next frame and flick to it knowing, where it is moving, instead of 90 degree every frame.

Only played 2.5 hours of this game back in 2016 and barely got any achievements. I return today and quit after 1.5 hours trying to learn basic movement. Apex Legends movement is fine but trying to learn this is absolute mental torture for me.

You are a godsend. I just went back to Q3A and forgot a lot that I learned from actual people on servers back in the day. Nobody had videos like this, so you had to just play and hope to run into somebody who will teach you. haha Is this map available for Q3A? I can't buy QL for a while. And what is the name of this map?

Thanks! I'm not familiar with Q3A but you access this map in QL through the training or by /map qzpractice2. Maybe this helps, sorry I can't give you more info.

Using your Quake Live tutorials to get into Quake Live. With Quake having the remastered version now on Steam, Halo Infinite coming up and the success of the Doom titles I really think there is a demand for something more than shitty CoD and Battlefield every other year. I hope you're fine and just want to let you know that your videos are awesome and helpful!

The white deck with the correct cards is a really good strategy to win this too, you just need enough pacifism cards, two raise the alarm cards and two crusader of Odric creatures to win the game!

people say aim isnt as important in Quake but it takes far less raw practice to learn maps and movement than it does to master flick shots and all that, so I would expect the good aimers to know how to control the map as well. Of course if you're new, movemnet and especially map knowledge will get you much farther than just focusing on aim, but eventually you're going to have to master aim as well, unless you are an extremely good strategist when it comes to controlling the map and predicting your opponent. A good tip for beginners aside from just practicing (which is still the most important advice), is to always keep your cross-hairs as close as you can to a possible target. Meaning, even if there's no enemy in view, keep your crosshairs around upper torso level and keep them aimed towards doorways and paths that you expect the enemy to be coming from. For instance if you're entering a doorway and you know the enemy could be coming towards you from the right, you should already be aiming to the right as you enter the doorway, rather than waiting for a visual queue and then reacting. I'd say 80% of good aiming is good pre-aiming, its a lot eaiser to hit the target when you only have to move your mouse a few centimetres when reacting, rather than halfway across your mouse pad.

I had played Q3 in 2000 during my studies.I had a 350MHz PC with 8MB Graphics Ram (people from germany know very well the so called ALDI PC)...I could play it only on the lowest graphic settings and thought always that this kind of jump is only possible with the right equipment...Maybe that was good at that time for me because thats maybe the reason that I could end my studies successfully :)...its funny but most of the good Quake Players which were at the same university did not made it as they have played all the nights....Just a short flashback 😁 You are explaining it very good and Im getting a nice feeling to install Q3 again on my PC after 20years :). Great Video, nice job man! Is there any possibility to capture also your mouse movements? I know we see the cross however it would be helpful to see how big and fast the mouse movements must be.

Sometimes it's useful when you're moving towards an objective but want to pressure and opponent that's pursuing you for example. It happens sometimes that you end up between your destination and the enemy. I did it in this video to 1) show off and 2) show that it's not as difficult as people say once you get it down =)

I should attempt to make a video on it again. If you can 180 on your mouse back and forth to center a few times your mouse is set to attempt this. Also try to mouse 360 to center. You are doing 45° turns sometimes at 22 1/2° from standing still. So if you jump in pie you will get covered in pie. Plasma pies. Something like that. Its hard to splain.
