I'm not trying to be a jerk here, however, can someone explain to me how this actually works. I understanding bolting the strap to the wall, but they loose me with securing the strap to the furniture with adhesive and velcro. Are we really expected to believe that a piece of furniture as solid as the piece in this video will remain standing in an earthquake when it is held to the wall with a strip of, well tape and velcro? Has anyone tried this product?

onefourfiveman I am assuming it’s not meant to be able to hold the full weight of the furniture, it’s meant to prevent it from tipping over, bc as long as it’s not tipping over, the floor will bear the full weight of the furniture.

According to Ira Flatow in the book “They All Laughed...From Light Bulbs to Lasers,” a piece of Velcro less than 5 inches square can support a weight of one ton." of course if the quake jolts up and down and not side-to-side that could dislodge the hook from loop. I guess it all depends on the direction the furniture moves during a quake or if a child climbs up on it and pulls it down onto himself, etc.

I have used these straps to secure an antique tall case clock. I think the idea is to keep the furniture stable during the temblor, not hold the weight of the entire piece. Nevertheless less I put a couple small flathead screws through the velcro and into the wood as extra security.
