I would have some aluminum leader in my inventory with some A and B fittings along with PVC square to round fittings to make for a nice transition appearance when piping to the underground. It lends to a very professional look. Keep up the good, honest work you do.

Thank you Adam! I really try to make this a coherent story with a problem, solutions, and the process we go through installing the solution. I try very hard to make every second of the video cover educational, or entertaining content and no fluff. I also try to demonstrate the solutions working after installation in the rain and wrap up the video with important points. I'm glad you are enjoying my stuff! - Shwan

That's right Ry! I could tell by their text they weren't happy so I called them right back to explain things. Regardless of how they felt about my explanation, the pipes were pouring out water right then, so whatever I was saying was clearly correct. I also assured them that I could bring in some more dirt if needed after the pipes settled in place. They were happy with that.

Your question on looks vs. results in the description... definitely results. Looks are nice to have, but are secondary and thus sometimes must be put aside. Sometimes you gotta do something ugly to make something work, but that's OK. If you need a bit of extra fall, then having the pipe poke up out of the ground a little bit (in an area where it is not a tripping hazard or liable to vehicle damage, eg. a garden bed) is fine. Just chuck some treebark mulch chunks, or or equivalent, over it! (note: I have not watched the video yet as at writing the comment, I just saw the question and thought of an answer, and wanted to get it out before I forget it)

Wow, I still have some so I should probably remove it. I think the manufactures stopped selling it for residential use with those twists. @@tttt4029 This is America where they must commit the crime before doing all of the time. We also pay taxes to educate children & keep them safe. Now that we live in the age of security cameras there is no need to barbwire the guts of a child to protect less value than injury caused by the unnecessarily-short-violent-fence. Plus the Rabies-Act requires six foot fence for dogs that break-the-skin so barbwire is probably just as hazardous.

Nice Job and a good video. I am still amazed by the construction standards in that area. My house is from 1957. Foundation is 3 feet deep concrete (no bricks). You could have just used aluminum downspout elbows on those front downspouts to get around the patio and down to ground level to your pipes. Those to short gutters over the stoop are barely getting any water anyways. That way you could just have a 90* pvc elbow sticking out of the ground just a couple inches.

@larryehrlich57
@larryehrlich57 11 ай бұрын
The fall of the pipe on the yard doesn't matter, "provided" that you catch your water high up from the ground... and in a "sealed pipe". My definition of a sealed pipe is when there is no way for the water to get out of the pipe except for the water discharge down low. For example, your city water tower uses the force of gravity to bring water to your home...thru a sealed pipe. One or many water connections up high and one or many water connections down low..."thru a 100% sealed pipe" except for intake water and discharge water. As long as your water is taken up High and it flows in a sealed pipe to down low by gravity...the water will flow thru the any sealed pipe!!!

They are a couple of rows of what looks like spikes along the roof right at the gutter. The idea is it catches and holds the snow/ice and allows it to melt. Otherwise the snow/ice slides down the metal roof and destroys the gutter.

I don't use downspout adapters because they seal off the system. Placing the rectangular downspout into a round coupler leaves a space in there. That's enough to access the system with a snake or jetter hose. I talk about it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3XFnaJpgruFppI

@@GCFD Thank you so much for responding! I was coming in here to look for this question today to delete it because I came across that video last night! Extremely helpful, as are all your videos. I'm a homeowner who had a disastrous result from a company that tried to fix flooding into my garage from my side yard, using, of course, socked perforated corrugated pipes that collapsed after about six months. It's a story, but you have helped me understand what went wrong and what will correct it. I'm a huge fan.

How do you keep track of the fittings so you know what you need to buy?
@GCFD

I don’t keep track of them Alex. Instead I have several cases of each at my shop and so always have more than enough. I hate having the whole job come to a stop over a missing fitting.

I have three downspouts that go directly down against the house in an L-space. I want to put a concrete border against the house. Do you recommend solid pipes that go down and create a hole into the concrete and risk future cracks or putting a channel drain and eventually connect to the drain to a basin?

Thanks for another great video. This job is making me wonder about PVC applications in places colder than Greensboro. I thought I was a drainage expert from watching your videos, but then we moved from South Carolina to New York. Seems like PVC could freeze and become brittle in the below 0 temps, with the deep frost lines here in the North?
@GCFD
@GCFD 2 жыл бұрын
I don't have any experience with those temps and PVC. The deeper frost line may also cause soil heaving.

Is the blue glue you use for the pipes a primer/glue combo? I don’t see you guys use primer
@GCFD
@GCFD 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's Oatey Rain-R-shine primer+glue. We used to use separate primer and glue but switched to rain-r-shine. It's good stuff.

Looks great but why didn’t you just put the front gutter pointing to the driveway into the pipe?
@GCFD
@GCFD 2 жыл бұрын
We definitely could have but would have added to the cost. Pointing it towards the driveway directed that water out of the way.

Why did you need to remove the leaves before putting on dirt?
@tttt4029
@tttt4029 2 жыл бұрын
organic matter rots and soaks up moisture, he just wants high clay content ssoil to deflect the water away. Few leaves probably wouldn't matter to be fair though.
@GCFD

Like tt tt said above. I want the new dirt to form a waterproof bond with the old dirt, so the leaves had to go.

@@GCFD thanks! So basically the leaves will turn into ”bad” dirt that you dont want near the foundation. Got it! 😊

Pipes will flow just fine if you capture the water in a "sealed pipe" "directly" from the gutter 8 - 10 feet above the ground...from the gutters well above the ground.

Yes, yes it would.

That would create a ton of head if the pipe ever clogged. Boom.
