If go communist or using Feedback gaming exploit it's way to easy. It's not really a challenge. Yugoslavia, Bulgara and Greece have one of the best Focus trees in the game.

I've done something similar in Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game, with similar results. The main difference is that I waited for Barbarossa in both instances, and in both it happened roughly historically (for the second run, 14th July 1941 was when the war started, don't recall for the first, it's been a while). One run, I went all plain infantry with Manpower Focus (DH's equivalent of Mass Assault and Soviet and Chinese default). This doctrine path permanently takes away a point of soft attack from infantry divisions and temporarily it's -1 SA and -2 HA compared to normal. I got beaten back all the way to the Dnieper before being able to stabilize, and I had garrison divisions on the front line. I ended up mixing in some mechanized and paras later on as another part of the experiment, but the bulk of my force was still infantry. I too decided to call it quits after some time, seeing no significant improvement would be possible for the foreseeable future. Another run, I switched to Defensive Focus (French default, a version of Grand Battle Plan). This doctrine ends up giving artillery brigades +2 soft attack, as well as better defensive stats. I made extra artillery brigades to retrofit existing forces and then built only infantry with artillery. By mid-November 1943, I had conquered mainland Europe sans Iberia and about half of Greece while inflicting over 11.5 million casualties on the Axis, of which almost 6.8 million German, and taking roughly 6.74 million. I've also achieved good results with Light Infantry (Japanese default, a different GBP). It has two branches, one of which grants militia, infantry, mountaineers, marines, paratroops and cavalry +30% night move, attack and defense. To put the numbers in perspective for non-players of HoI2-style games, model 1939 infantry divisions have 11 SA and 2 HA base, for model 1942 that increases to 13/4 and 13/5 in 1945. And an infantry division of that period has a maximum strength of 13000 men.

Speaking of using things properly: - I'd say it was a mistake to not invest in Turkey. Yes, it does give you a temporary economic debuf but it binds Turkey more to your will (so I believe it's a way to get them to be more receptive to an alliance). - I'd say there are better fallback lines that are closer to Germany - specifically the Vistula and other Polish rivers. That way you don't lose your territory and still have more strategic depth to retreat. - At 10:36 There were still useful focusses left. Improve railway network gives you more infrastructure, the anti-fascist diplomacy path gives you some forts, annexes Tannu Tuva and gives you claims in the Baltic. The anti-capitalist path gives you - Taureor might have only needed to do export focus (potentially combined with infrastructure on steel producing provinces, development of steel via decisions and researching excavation). - While you can have too much political power in the really late game, that isn't the case here - as the in game time Taureor's playing in you can never have enough political power.

Quality vs Quantity. While both is ideal, I am interested to see this play out. Normally quantity is very bad in small areas but very good in big areas and the reverse for quality. 14/4s for pushing and 20width infantry with engineers for holding with Grand battleplan will work best for your non-micro style. But be sure to use field hospitals on the 14/4s, as you will have more veteran divisions. Also, set them up as elite troops, so they get the best guns first. If you could be bothered, use fighters to get green air. You won't need AA then. The Aviation Cult focus will help you a lot here. You don't need to micromanage your airforce, just assign air-wings to armies.

I answered that question a long time ago (half interesting story): It was one of my first games, as Italy. I was struggling to help Germany defeat the Soviet Union even though I've sent most of my army there. I've lost so many men because I forgot to upgrade support companies at all. So I discovered that 1936 tech really really does not work well in 1946

Like you can have fighter 1 not even upgraded and AI won't put it's wings over the zone, just because you have more numbers. The AI keeps starting units, sometimes 12w/14w that are just less effective than sandbags... German light tanks that attack Poland are shit against AT-2 canons. Seriously anyone that knows superior fire power and strategic destruction are the best doctrines in the game has more than enough experience to kick AI digital ass.

Just rush the purge focuses and declare war on any country, I usually go for Iran because of the oil. Then wait the full 70 days for lessons of war to finish before pushing.

The problem is, quantity doesn't mean "Pure guns without support". Deep battle is a great example of that (23 infantry battalions, 1 artillery battalion and various support companies). This template (and sometimes medium tanks for encirclement) usually translates into virtually no casualties on my side and absolutely wrecked enemy army.

If you're going to try again with artillery, do 14/4 as 40width divisions are much better due to concentration of attack(attack stacks so if 2 divisions attack 1 at the same time and only stacked they have more soft attack to pierce the defence, they can deal more damage but they will randomly select which divisons to attack so only 50% of their attacks will be the coordinated good ones, 40 doesn't have this issue so it's MUCH better) and they also use support companies more efficiently. Thus you would get away with only 1 company per 40w compared to 2 companies per 40w

1. You should've attacked germany right after u killed Poland 2. You should've made the divisions 19.2 width because otherwise u get a 25% debuff because of exceeding combat width 3. You should've made more divisions because if you make infantry only you need a big advantage to push 4. You shouldn't have pushed because its just stupid to do when u dont have an advantage In the end both have their uses - quality infantry is good if u can afford enough of it and u want to attack, while spam infantry is good for defending and if u want to be able to lose without it making a difference. Especially as the USSR u should make spam infantry because u dont have a big production potential but u have a lot of people. Against the AI tho its better to make quality infantry and just let it ram against u until they are out of guns.

I'd definitely like to see a comparison between 10-0 and 7-2 divisions. Maybe test 40 widths too - you can probably use the same save files as for the 20 widths but change the template shortly before the war

@ゴロゴロ That's not an a advice. For starters Germany is probaz the best. Best tech at start of the game, easy wargoals, can take few countries at start, Netherlands especially because of the West Indies and they're resurses. Or UK. You can attack USA at start of the game, while they are still weak, and literally steal they're factory and build up army realy fast. Only problem can probably be Japan when they attack Malaysia.

You can also try adding one super heavy tank to see if the armor actually works well, since this is higher than the piercing of a regular german division, it means you take half damage and get about 50% better organization damage rolls. Which might be a cost effective, and certainly manpower effective way to make your divisions better. Remember, the good old space marines (marines + a super heavy tank destroyer) before the special forces cap.

Pure tank army Soviets are something else entirely. You can basically conquer Germany and the Axis in a few months. Wouldn't be much of challenge but I'd like to see you try it.

14-4s with all that support. Granted you will have supply/infrastructure and (possibly) some manpower issues, but all that HP, Organisation, and Soft Attack would be worth it.

recon is pretty important, as it gives you better tactics in battles. + you should go for 20 width with the first try, it would mean a lot and maybe it wouldn't be so different, and you always did that with mass assault (at least as far as i remember)

You can delay the purge until 1st of September 1938. This specific date is hardcoded in the script of the event.

A quality army requires many research slots and access to natural resources - in exchange your wars are faster and you conserve manpower. Generally the more slots/natural resources/factories you have, the better it is to use quality armies so your manpower doesn't get depleted instantly For a land army you first add engineers, then support artillery, then line artillery, then I'd add maintenance and hospital companies, some line Aa/AT and Eventually, 1 tank batallion (med or heavy) with armor maxed out (the amor value partly depends on the heaviest unit)

The way taureor tests the soviets here is the exact way I played the soviets in singleplayer to get the achievements

the thing is, if you send pure infantry one by one infront of mg42 they will die one by one, you used 2 army groups in your Quantity test, so you should have had like 3-4 army groups and attack at the same time . IF the attrition is the matter, instead of trying to be equal in both tries, you can take initiative just like retreating into your homeland and widening the front. Different tactics, requires different methods. In my observes, the current meta for soviet looks like quantity in infantry. Quality in Tank. But still very good test!

I'm surprised 40 width infantry wasn't used. It's just plain better if you can cover the front. And it seems like you could have.
