Thanks for the update! Much quieter than I expected.

Yes, indeed. It's only 2dBA louder than the 2U R710 that I made a video about last year.

Awesome. Looking forward to the next video in regards to firmware updates and all. I ended up ordering one of these after your unboxing videos. The first server was DOA. Powers on but no POST, No video. no beeps. Even the BMC was not getting an IP address if the default was set to DHCP so I couldn't look at any logs or errors. Just amber light flashing on the front of the server. I contacted the seller and they sent me a replacement right away. I got the replacement running for now using windows just to play with it. Going to be using unraid on it but I am not sure if I should update the BIOS / BMC / SAS Firmware and all that before I put unraid on it. Guess we'll have to wait until next friday for the firmware update video. lol. Thanks :)

Sorry your 1st server was DOA. :-( Glad you got a working replacement. Regarding the bios/firmware stuff, there's a note in the release notes about specific versions that are required or the system may not boot, so that's why i'm being extra cautious about the updates. I've been reading through the release notes in more detail.. and it looks like they added some new functionality between the backplane/HBA/BMC ... so my guess is that those updates need to be done together or there can be a call to a missing function.

A Chassis like this but with only the power supplies, power distribution board and a dual expander setup and no motherboard or any other hardware and just four external SAS connectors (two in two out) to make for a 1u 12 HDD JBOD enclosure would be really nice.

Indeed... wish Quanta designed this around standardized motherboard form factors. that's one thing I like about Supermicro chassis... you can usually install 3rd party motherboards in them.

I assume this would be louder when loaded with drives because they would be blocking airflow? Would you be able to test this?
@ArtofServer4 жыл бұрын
My guess would be the same... but I will test this machine fully loaded with HDDs+SSDs and re-test the noise and power again. I'll also re-test it with heavy I/O load and CPU load.

yes it is blocking air flow.

I am looking to purchase one or 2 of these. Do you happen to know where I can get some 3.5" bay for this? Seller is selling them without trays.

No, sorry... Quanta parts are a little hard to come by in US market. I don't know about other markets.

DO not update Bios and BMC on it , I did it and it no longer booting up . Noise level for first hour is quiet but after heat build up it revs up. this server only recognize SAS or SSD.

Yeah, SAS Expander firmware update is required before the BIOS / BMC updates. The SAS Expander firmware will also allow the use of SATA drives reliably.

@brainscrew1983 checkout my latest video on this topic. yeah, you have to be very careful before updating the BIOS: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXeXcqxumdqnf9U
