Ironically, the ending of QL, while not completely satisfying, always has given me chills. When he asks the deity character if he’ll ever go home, and the figure says: “God bless you, Sam” I believe it signifies that while Sam stepped into the accelerator himself, fate chose him from the very beginning. Truly a wonderful parable about character, courage, accountability and personal responsibility.

This show got me through my broken leg back in the day, and I'm happy to have recently gotten the entire series on DVD. It saddens me that we have 32,768 seasons of the Bachelor, but we couldn't get a 6th season of one of the best shows to have ever been on TV.

Hey Paul L, "It saddens me that we have 32,768 seasons of the Bachelor, but we couldn't get a 6th season of one of the best shows to have ever been on TV". I agree with you 65,536 times over. I also have the DVD box set. I don't think it was 32,768 seasons of that silly show show called the Bachelor. I think it was more like 16,384. Then you have to have a spin off "The Bachelorette" which had about 16,384 seasons, and you couldn't pay me to watch Big Brother. Remember that garbage? I think it had about 8,192 seasons. Should have been called: "Oh Brother" Oh I think it only had 4,096 or was it 2,048. Oh wait, that's right, It's all coming back to me. It was 1,024. It's all trash. I didn't even like survivor. The only thing I remember about that is the one girl who one made some crap move with Rob Schneider where he's an Animals. I used to be such a fan of his back in my late teens to early 20s. I can't see the appeal. I still think he was great on SNL. Sorry I'm starting to ramble now. There had to be at least 512 seasons of that one. I know it was over 256. I really only saw about 128 good seasons of SNL. I can't even watch that anymore. I wish Mad TV was still a think, but only if they could some how get the original cast back. I think there were at least 64 great seasons. Will Sasso is hands down my favorite actor. He'll I love the whole "Stewart" deal played fantastically by Michael McDonald. He alone is 32 times funnier than the people who are on SNL now, which is just to cringy to watch. There's 16 people on that show who I can't even look at, and another 8 people who I just wanna kick repeatedly in the balls. Sorry my friend. I went on 4 times longer than I meant to. Anyway, I hope you found at least 2 things I said that you actually agree with me on. I hope you have a good 1. Not just 0.5 of your day or 0.25. I would hate for you to have actually read this, and I really hope you do only to have 0.125 of your day be sh*tty. Well even if you are having a bad day and you wind up only having 0.0625 or worse, 0.03125 be any good. I hope I at least brought you some joy.

Yeah it's pretty bad how backward they think we are. I hate how this word has been just ruined by people's lack of understanding. That being said. This is a classic case of the dunning kruger effect. Rich people in general are bad enough with this condition, but Movie stars. Especually directors I feel have it the worst. It's a two way street though. What sucks even more is due to the nature of this one of many brain flaws is what makes all this so much worse. Us. So many middle income to below citizens who can have exceptional IQs think that so many of these Hollywood types and even just well to due people have this effect on us that they are smarter. For every 10 to 20 thousand people do have exceptional intelligence and are super well to do. So many of these people who make it into Hollywood or just happen to be very well at a sport are just average and even below average. What a shock right?!?! lol. I hope you guys can see past this like FeaQueenCory here and I know not everyone is effected by this, but the only way we can ever truly stop it is make more people aware of what's going on here. We need to be teaching younger and younger kids about said effects. Problem is I've just opened a huge can of worms right now, because it's no secrete that schools are teaching kids less and less. I really hat it.

For those who don't know, Quantum Leaps original ending was basically Sam (Scott Bakula) saying he's not gonna stop until her gets home as he goes into a portal, then it fades to black and text says 'and he never made it back'. I am sure you've seen parodies of it. It was the original F you ending. What a great finale for people invested in the series. A super downer with almost no closure. XD
@BYERE5 жыл бұрын
It was a little more intricate than that. Sam was told he had the ability to go home whenever he wanted, even if just as a break for a while before coming back to it, but the catch was that he had to realise that he was the one in control of his own destiny... and after so many years of believing that someone else was taking him from place to place, he couldn't accept something so simple as an explanation for his leaping. As for the ending to the episode, intentional or otherwise, my interpretation has always been that after Sam saved Al's marriage, he leapt again into himself in another time period, and the crew of Project Quantum Leap could never find him again... He just disappeared into history. Admitted, in the years since, one of the main plotholes I realised is that Sam could have just posted a message to himself, like when he and Al leapt together and switched places, in order to tell them where he is... but whatever.
@renobutters5 жыл бұрын
I believe the idea was that Sam considered it more important to fix everything bad than to come home. What he did to save Beth and Al was out of guilt and he felt like he had to keep doing what he was the only one able to do-- perhaps he thought if he came home, he couldn't get himself to leave again eventually. Then again, we could consider the 'never came home' thing was only relative to the present in the future, i.e. maybe he'd come back years after the narrator said this. Even if the title card was 100% canon, there's no reason why the authors couldn't play with words if some producer had the great idea to do a reunion movie. But I've long accepted that it's just wishful thinking, of course. The ending was traumatic for me, but I still think it's the most emotionally rewarding bittersweet I've ever watched.

In all fairness, much like Sam Beckett before the fifth season, I originally didn't know there were other Leapers either. I watched Quantum Leap during its original run when I was in 8th grade and high school. During this time, my classmates were all watching the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, Blossom, etc, none of which I watched regularly or really cared about. When they asked me what my favorite show was, I told them that it was Quantum Leap. They seemed a little puzzled and said that it was a good show, but they didn't really watch it because it "got weird." (Note: this was during the classic Quantum Leap era [second season], long before the writers introduced concepts such as evil leapers, leaping outside of one's own lifetime, or leaping into animals. So, other than the sci-fi aspect of becoming someone else, I am not sure what they were talking about.) I was surprised when I went to college and found out that there was more of a fanbase.

I think this is the ending they should have used on the basis of what we know was filmed, but if I had been writing the ending and had to go with the ending that Bellisario did (with Sam continuing to leap), I would have had Sam leap into this scene, have a conversation with them about how he planned to continue leaping, and rhen leap out. It would have provided clarification about whether he decided to continue after he talked with Beth and it would also have wrapped up the arc of Sam, Al, and Beth better. It might also have been neat to have his wife in the scene so that any loose ends could have been tied up with her. His conversation with her probably would have been more emotional than his conversation with Beth, because it would have demonstrated that Sam fully understood the extent of the sacrifice he was making by choosing to continue to leap, further illustrating just how sefless he was . It"s too bad that they couldn't have filmed that version of the scene. It would have satisfied the fans who really wanted him to go home but also explained why he didn't.

Just a thought but maybe Donald Bellisario should just write Sam and Al reuniting in a book so that the fans can get closure and it would be canon as the creator wrote it. Plus then we wouldn't have to rely on the actors' health to film a more fitting closure to the series.

You know. I think I now understand why that ending happened. While we know they planned two endings, one as an opened ending and the other as a lead in to a season six. They probably either A. shot an open ending that was too open for the Network, or B. They never shot that ending. Either way, the Network definitely wanted the show to end, and they probably didn't want to spend money on reshoots for an ending of a show they were basically cancelling. So BLACK SCREEN AND TEXT

Kind of like how you did for She-Wolf of London and Teen Wolf. I know Quantum Leap is probably 10x more well-known than those series, thus it seems kind of pointless to draw attention to something that can't really be called "obscure", but you obviously love it a lot, which makes for the best kinds of videos, and there's no aspect of the internet that's better than people just extensively talking about shit they love. (Plus, Quantum Leap is some absolutely *Quality* Television, and sometimes I wonder if people see your delves into Quantum Leap as you being obsessed with another weird obscure thing, and aren't aware that it' actually one of the best series out there.)

This is amazing. After seeing the photos of Al and Beth from your previous video on this topic, I figured it had to be filmed, but I can see why that footage was cut out, it would ticked off fans even more with that ending. A lot of Quantum Leap fans hate the finale because Sam never went home, if you watched the show I never understood people's anger. Sam always went out of his way to help strangers. It's perfect plausible that Sam would get stuck in time continuing to help people before himself. Even though NBC canceled the show at the last minute, not every show needs a happy ending. As sad as it was, I was always pretty satisfied with it. At this point the only way I see QL coming back is with with a reboot with new actors, which NBC/Universal will do eventually, their were rumors about it a few months for NBC's Peacock streaming service.

I'm still making my way through the show myself for the first time (loving it so far) but this was awesome to see.

I was literally just thinking about the final scenes of the Mirror Image episode... I came on KZbin, and this was one of the first on my recommended videos. Coincidence? Maybe... but a good one no less :D

I LOVED Quantum Leap, and still hate the ending. But this lost ending would have a been a great way to end the series.
@pgaven93962 жыл бұрын
It would have bookended it nicely without having to spend alot of money and keep it open-ended enough to the possibility of another season. Which never happened and its more tragic that Scott Bacula was never given a chance to be part of the reboot due to politics it seems.

W00t! Grats! As someone who loves it when old unfinished games turn up, I'm glad to see you find a thing.

One of my favourite show from the 90s. I was really gutted to see that it ended,and they way it ended. So, after such a long time it was good watching this, it would be even better if you watch the episode after 26 years.

When I happened upon that footage I was so happy. Also sad because we never got more Quantum Leap but it was still cool to see. I hope however they continue the series (when they eventually get around to the soft reboot they've been talking about for what feels like forever) it feels the same as the original and this footage feel. There are all these updates now for 80's shows like Magnum P.I. and Macgyver that feel nothing like the shows they're named for from back in the much less serious 80's. SInce Don Bellisario is supposed to be executive producing the series I trust he's still got that loving feeling.

The broadcast finale was so disappointing. This just makes me wish that this ending had gotten used.

I prefer the ending as it was aired, although sad, it was the best choice.
@kendallrivers11193 жыл бұрын
@@ariesmars29 many would disagree lol but I respect your viewpoint. Personally this ending would've just been the more interesting and enjoyable ending. The ambiguity of Al trying to find Sam provides hope as well as mystery and allows us to fantasize about the fate of Sam and if and how Al will find him.

Movie Nights I've heard nothing about a future bar concept, but I did read somewhere that a couple episodes in a sixth season were going to have Sam leap into Richard Nixon, an astronaut in space, and even a baby! I don't remember where I read that, but I do remember being bummed out about it not happening. Have you heard of this?

I don't think I ever mentioned this in a comment on one of your vids, but I am here specifically for QL related content (mostly). When I heard about the unearthing of the alternate ending, I immediately thought of you, and couldn't help wondering if your spotlight of its possible existence helped get it found. I'm floating high on cloud nine. What a great day for Leapers.

Holy smokes! The script was legit....all of it. The future leaping, the future bar, it was really gonna be the thing! Teenage me would have blown a gasket. Mid-40's me still was is still jaw-dropped.

Again blame NBC they abruptly cancelled the show. QL had to scramble. But let's blame the last episode as it is.... They were talking about a space episode

Please keep unveiling information. I was a big Quantum Leap fan when the series was current, at least in the last few years of its run, but somehow I missed the finale. Something came up unexpectedly and I didn't get to see it and was really bummed out about it. It wasn't until pretty recently, maybe last year, that I finally got to see it in a rerun. It was a pretty good episode, although I didn't love the very end. I'm not sure I would have liked the space bar any better, but I would like to learn more about it.
