James, The process of removing the old battery is easier if you use the correct procedure. First off you are using the WRONG tool, don't use the thick chisel, all you need is a long thin 3/4" wide putty knife (long enough to reach the bottom of the case), you don't want or need to pry the battery away from the side, all you need to do is SLIDE the putty knife straight down between the battery and inside of the case to separate the double-sided adhesive tape (it's not glue), between the battery and the case. Another trick is to use a heat gun on the outside of the case to warm up the double-sided tape, which will make it easier to slide the putty knife down inside causing the tape to pull off the battery, and heat the bottom so you can pull the battery out easier. I have 8 of these Turbo batteries and have replaced ALL the internal batteries many times.

This is all really good information, Jon. I hope everyone will see and heed these remarks to better suit the issue at hand. Thanks!

thanks James. Mine came off without removing the bottom. I've used some waterproof sealing tape as a replacement for the glue. good luck everyone else.

How about not using any adhesive at all, wouldn't the screws help maintain the stability of the assembly? I figure the manufacturers used that tough glue to discourage attempts at DIY, but maybe I'm wrong.

Mine had no glue, but the control board did plug into a socket at the base of the case inside. See my photos and notes at dbooth.org/2019/quantum/ . Excellent video! Thanks!

This was one of the best from ATG/Quantum after ATG departed from Metz. The ATG Gold 60CT-4r was/still the world's powerful flash. Both of these professional products are still working today. The issue that one may run would be frayed & worn out cable. And those cables & cap are no longer available. Anyone knows where one can buy a battery cable (external battery) for ATG Gold 76MZ-5r & Metz 76MZ-5 flashes?

Great video! Real explorer: Thanks James! I wonder if a slimmer shim would suffice to separate the battery glue from the encasement.

A simple long standard screwdriver made easy work of it. No cutting necessary.

Great video, I just tried to fit a new cell (PS-832) to my Turbo that has been in storage for years and I think I accidently connected the polarity the wrong way round! something popped flashed and smoked... Looks like a black capacitor? next to the copper coil has blown, it's about half an inch long, could it be a thermal cut off capacitor? I really want and try and fix this, and have no idea of what the equivalent component would be, any help would be wonderful...

Thanks a lot James! One question; On the second battery, how did you get out the circuit board assemblage without busting up the wires or breaking contacts? Was it easy to just pull out whole?
@jameslyons33063 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was easy, problem was not knowing why/what was holding it up when you were trying to take it apart so until I realized the wires and the connection as well as HOW they were connected I was reluctant to just yank, if you know what I mean.

I have been replacing the battery for years...it just slides out not cutting or damaging the case.

yeah, somebody put some vhb tape (not glue) inside this unit in the vidya. i just popped mine out with minimal working of the front edges. it shouldn't require all that. the last person that swapped that battery out made a mess of it. but good job at extracting it.

For the 2nd part on removing the battery, how did you remove the computer first if the cables are attached to the batter? Did you just pull hard enough?
@jameslyons3306 Жыл бұрын
Once the screws were out I think all I did was turn it upside down to shake it a bit to loosen it coming out of the casing. The cables are not that tight as I recall but it has been some time,..

This video is 4 yrs old. I have one of these that is dead. Do you have an Amazon link to the part? I cant find it. Maybe they no longer make it 😢
Danny, Sorry mate but I don't have that model on hand.

No problem and thanks. Great video, I have a couple of the very unit as well, so this is really helpful. Yes, you are right, these are great units, and can power just about every flash units, new and old. The trick is finding the cables, but he Canons and Nikons you can get for cheap.

Thanks for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you ever tried - Lammywalness Trendy Trade Guide (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great one off product for learning how to recondition batteries at home minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my BF after many years got amazing results with it.
