PAULA!! I watch ME TV, all the time. Same reason. I don't like what's going on "out there" in the rest of our USA. Never thought I'd see the day where people would think it's OK to physically HARM other people, OR, damage anything that is not theirs. 💔 I am definitely going to make those grits. 😋 Thank you for creating this recipe many years ago, & sharing with us. Y'all have a blessed, beautiful Sunday. ❤

So I grew up in a foster home and I wasn't able to get a tv until my teenage years. My foster family and I, really didn't see eye to eye, and that's okay because they were extremely loving at the same time. Well, during my teenage years I began watching Paula on television and she made my life feel complete. Well, fast forward to the present day, and I still cannot help but feel like Paula is my family. She has provided me with that southern hospitality realness that one doesn't get here in California. So Paula, and the individuals behind the scenes.. thank you for making me feel at home again.

Try adding the grits at the same time with the cold liquid. Much creamier and a more intense corn flavor. Stir, stir, stir!

Hi ya'll. I'm from New Zealand. A while back I bought a packet of corn grits from our local fresh food store because I am somewhat enamoured of the USA culture...they sat in the pantry because I didn't know what to do with them. After watching this I had a go. We didn't have the special tomatoes that Paula used by substituted bell pepper which I fried with my onion. Less butter of course! Absolutely delicious - first time I cooked grits and first time I ate em. Thanks Paula. I watch everyday and love your sense of humour.

I'm almost 65 years old and love shows like "Little House on the Prairie", "Golden Girls", King of Queens", Highway to Heaven". I watch very few of the newer things on tv. By the way, I am loving the "Quarantine Cooking" shows. Thanks so much for your hospitality, wisdom, and humor.

Ok, my darling daughter was over for breakfast and grits are her very favorite! So I surprised the family with these and they all loved them! Tell Bobby I used almond milk instead of water and regular milk, 1Tbl of butter , and 1/4 C Velveeta and 1/2C shredded cheddar along with the Rotel. I added the chopped green onions to the grits while cooking so no sautéing necessary. It was fabulous! And truly creamy and decadent with much less fat and calories. I just served them hot with the rest of our meal and didn’t do eggs and bake. Fabulous! Love y’all ❤!

And you remind me of my mamaw with the cooking,I just LOVE the way you put so much love and enthusiasm into whatever you are making. I would love to win an air fryer for my husband and I,we are doing the keto diet and its so hard to eat healthy these days. And I gotta tell you,I am about to cheat on this diet from watching your videos all day. But I couldnt pry myself away, lol. I lost my Mama in 2009, and My Daddy. And Mom taught me how to cook, and I loved your Rice pudding recipe! My Mom used sugar, milk and butter and then added raisins. But talk about so good!! Anyway,I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that you are making the videos still for you help me get through another day. As a South Carolina girl...I am a dedicated grits maker and the only time I DO NOT use butter is when I am making grits that I want to freeze or want to reheat in a microwave. So I use margarine (just this once, Paula..I swear!) and I can make them ahead of time for T-giving or Christmas and freeze then reheat on a double boiler or microwave without the seperation that butter would cause. Thank you for this wonderful recipe that I cant wait to try!

My Granny taught me to cook grits. I use the old timey grits and I measure four to one. That's four cups of liquid, as in two cups of water and two cups of whole milk, and one cup of grits. Stir or whisk constantly to make smooth and yummy. I don't care how long it takes because it's so good!

Paula, I’m not sure if you read these comments because I know you’re quite busy, but if you do...have you ever heard of tomato gravy as a breakfast item...me neither. That is, until I moved to a small rural town in Mississippi called Lumberton. I’m originally from Biloxi, which is just 55 miles south of Lumberton. Anyways, tomato gravy is traditionally served over biscuits, but I prefer mine served over my grits...or cheese grits. Your recipe today made me think of this and I’m definitely going to give it a try. Love your channel because like you I don’t like what they air on tv these days. I love your choices of entertainment but to add to it...how about “The Honeymooners.” From your Mississippi fan, Emmy Lou.

You know what I started doing some years ago, was taking my leftover oatmeal and putting it in a loaf pan and letting it setup in the fridge. Next morning I turned it out and cut slices 1/4 inch thick and toasted them on my griddle till good and golden. The inside heats thru while it's toasting. In the beginning I just put a pat of butter on there and a drizzle of syrup. Now I make extra oatmeal and stir in spices, dried fruit or nuts, whatever you like. It's staple in our house now. I don't know if my husband could get through a weekend with out it. Preserves are nice as well as melted jam.

Paula, love your show and I get such a kick out of your humor and laugh. Since you do all this cooking and give us great recipes, and you always seem to look good, I was wondering if you would do one show with the makeup that you use, and maybe how you have your eye makeup done...I know I am not the only older woman who would love to see how your makeup is done...please consider doing this !!

I have got to try this!!! I have trouble eating a lot of foods and only small amounts at a time. It has disabled me and I struggle to eat enough to keep my weight up. But I have found that I can eat a good bit of grits with no problem. I love cheese and butter in them but I get bored. I LOVE TOMATOES! I am going to make these for my dinner tonight! I am going with the whole recipe but scaling down for one. Thank you Paula for doing all this for us during covid! BTW I made your VEGETABLE BEEF SOUP today again tired of mine. Made it for my sister, an her sister in law who she cares for and myself. DELICIOUS! I am freezing the leftovers. And cutting the recipe in half still filled my 5qt dutch oven. AWESOME FOOD!!!!

Oh Paula, Thanks for the idea of tomato grits! I'm making it this week. I too love ME-TV. Have you noticed the social changes of American society on Perry Mason. Compare the early Perry Mason (1959) to later Perry Mason (1965). The change of acceptability is stunning. And then there is the slide to 2020.

Somebody get Miss Paula a rubber whisk for her non stick pots and pans. I hear it's unsafe to scrape that material with metal and we want her to live forever!

Only cheap aluminium pans I believe. Aluminium found in high quantities from the brains of Alzheimer's sufferers thought to have come from years of cooking in aluminium pans over their lifetime. Stainless steel is the way to go.

Yummy, those grits look delicious and I I'm ine who likes grits. I totally agree with you on not watching all that negative stuff on tv I don't watch it either. Those three stooges are easy better and they are hilarious. I like all them old tv shows way better than all the junk they got on tv these days, back in the day tv was actually fun to watch now a days it's not. Love ya Mrs. Paula! ❤

Nothing worse than eating half cooked grits. Ashamed to being an old woman living in the South who never could make good tasting grits. But I never added salt, milk, stick of butter, eggs, or tomato before or even thought to fry grits. This was a lot of fun to watch. And real enlightening. Thanks Paula.

My Ma (grandma) would make tomato grits when I was a little girl. Her recipe is different from your. She use V8 Tomato juice that was in the can and she would roast tomatoes, onion and peppers in oven add to grits, then added bacon, 1cup copy jack cheese and mix it all together then put it on a casserole dish. Then top it with cheese on top and then put dabs of butter on top. We had it with out Sunday dinner roast or any dinner dish. It is still on of our favorite dishes.

Thinking about my favorite foods, they all contain cheese and tomatoes! Add grits...perfection! It might be grilled cheese and tomato soup, tomato sandwich with a side of mac and cheese, spaghetti or lasagna love it all! I stopped watching cable tv two years ago. I guess I ran out of patience quicker than everyone else. lol It's like the news became tabloids and the tabloids started reporting the news! And my favorite Food Network people are on youtube, like you and Alton Brown so I may not ever go back to cable. lol

I will definitely try this recipe!!! When I would visit my grandmother in Newton Grove, NC she would always have grits at breakfast. The grownups and older cousins had theirs with butter and we younger cousins had ours with sugar and milk. To this day I will eat them both ways but prefer them buttered.

Sugar on grits? Oh, yes, we do! The deep South, the poor South, the old South, it was such a treat for the young'uns. We'd never heard of cream of wheat, and don't dismiss what you've never tried! Butter & sugar on grits! It's the heritage of many a Southern sharecropper family!
