But , only a genius like MSV could bring a conceptual western musical colour matching to the ABBA and BoneyM trend with a folk base. What a composition and what a performance by this team - each and every one! Keep it up. Kartik Raman has preserved MSV's feel and modernized it too. Shyam's creation of guitars is amazing, the pulls and bends simply feel like guitar! The moog (?) or hammond organ during charanam was a beauty, well done Shyam. The rhythm sounds and time both has been excellent done and with Venkat, beautiful breathless presentation, wow guys! As someone who grew up in the 70s, this song was in the air for several years and in the mind for several decades. So much energy but it is also very unsual in rhythms, melody and arrangement. tharikita tharikita tharikita is a 12 note cycle. He uses it as 3 fours in the pallavi and as 4 three notes in charanam! as some one points out, this song *seems* to use all 12 notes! So I played it out and checked! It does not but cleverly brings in the Ma and the Da1 and Da2 both so it feels like that! I have always wondered where he got the inspiration for this. I thought he has taken the 'feel' from Mahabooba - the uuuuuoooo howling. Shubaji, your simple comment that this was inspired by a Malayalam folk song is a good nugget. It could be this song - where the chandam matches with jagamethan----thiram .... shiva shambo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXbJZmSfZ9GKask Also so much more to learn as a composer. The entire pallavi stays in S R1 N2 S with G added. This gives it the mantram like feel (N2 S R1) was probably the original scale in which mantras were chanted and G arrived next. Jagame manthiram in the lyric should have inspired him too. This fits the trance-rave like feeling of the song setting. To relieve this stress/concentration (cannot be held to entire song), he switches to softer ragam using P D2 N2 - D2 in manitha un jenmathil ennalum nannalam without any menace. But he brings in D1 as a menacing note at the end of innale ponnalam and gets back to original ragam. When the words say Nee Eru, he steps up the ending note (cadence). The electric guitar solo uses the gentle part of the ragam (PMG MGR SS - SRGMGR P P P; PMG MGR SS - GMGRS -SR GMGRS) This is a beautiful mini-song in itself!! You can see him use the same idea in Jambulingame Jadathara. (rock version of a bhajan!) (SRPM GMGR GMGR S in electric guitar) What a genius in melody and arrangement too!
