Definitely the Petroleum Quartz, a real collectors item there. Thanks for sharing.

Considering that quartz is the most common thing used as a gemstone, all of them 🥰 like she said the story they tell is the best part, geologically. Like the Medusa ones, tells you so much about the geologic history of the secondary copper deposits in Arizona, and amazed that they were so recently discovered! Would love to know what those inclusions are though, probably something along the lines of chrysocolla?

Keep it up! The study of geology is so so rewarding wherever you're from! I got started early cuz I'm from Colorado and there's lots to wonder about, but anywhere on this planet is amazing geology with lots to consider! And then some, cuz then you'll get into coastal geology and glaciation and all the things they come with but yeah. Best luck to you in your education!

Can different types of Quartz have a wide range of Hardness? Like from a 5 to a 9 on the MOH's scale?
@gems9 ай бұрын
There is a range, but not that extreme. Typically the range is stated as 6 to 7. The macrocrystalline varieties (such as rock crystal or amethyst) are usually 7, while polycrystalline forms (such as chalcedony) may be 6.

Quartz that contains Rutile, Tourmaline or Actinolite is given the Variety Call: Sagenitic. I got into a lot of trouble with the G.I.A. for calling these materials "Tourmalinated" Quartz or "Rutilated" Quartz during my courses
