Key of D minor. Mark Lewis, mandolin; Brad Leftwich, fiddle; Bill Flores, banjo; Vince Semonsen, guitar; James McNamera, bass. Written by Mark Lewis. Quartzite Falls was a Class VI rapid on the Salt River in Arizona that was illegally dynamited to make it runnable. Mark had been a river guide for years in Big Bend Texas and wrote this tune in memory of the Falls before it had been altered. Brad played with the Porch Dogs when he and Linda lived in Southern Calif in the early 2000's before they moved back to Indiana. Mark later returned to Texas and took up old-time fiddle. We always thought we'd see him again. But this year he died in Texas of heart problems; we put this up in his memory.

Thanks for posting this, I've been a good friend of Mark's for the past few years. He was very happy to share his music and stories of that time in his life. We had a big memorial jam and Mark remembrance party here in Austin for him. Thanks for honoring him and his tune!

Oh, this breaks my heart. Mark has been on my list of loved friends that I need to write to...and now he won't read that letter. So much loss and grief the past few years. Sometimes it's hard to keep going.
