Having lived in the desert for decades that is the number one rule, never ever stay in a wash it could rain many miles away and can get a flash flood, be safe.

Interstate 10 goes threw my home town of Mobile Alabama about 2ooo miles east

You need to find the low spots in that river and under rocks, dig into the sand, and pan out the gold one pan at a time. That's what me and my dad did in northern California and we found a few nuggets. Good luck and Happy New Year, Russ.
